Kaieteur News – Travis Ellis, a Kaieteur News pressman secured victory at Monday’s Local Government Elections (LGE) in Constituency 10 of the Georgetown Municipality – Albouystown / Charlestown.
Ellis contested as a candidate for A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) and said that it was the first time, he participated in the race to become councillor for his community.
Asked what prompted him to contest the elections, Ellis said “… Because of the young people in my community… they lack fair leadership and I want to be their voice”.
To secure their support, Ellis said that he campaigned by visiting “door-to-door” and letting the residents of his community understand that “party flags do not win elections”.
Now that he has won, Ellis plans to work overtime to develop his community not only by advocating on behalf of his constituency but also by networking with businesses.
“I promised to get back a night school for school dropouts and I promise them to repair a neglected playfield in the community”, Ellis told Kaieteur News in an interview.
