Upper Mazaruni U-18 Male Football Tournament…
– Semis on today, Finale tomorrow
Kaieteur Sports – The inaugural Upper Mazaruni Under-18 Male Football Tournament commenced on Sunday and has seen three consecutive days of competition between the six teams at the Edwin United Sports Club.
After the first two days, Jawalla was the only team with two consecutive victories while Waramadong (D.C Fox Secondary), Kaikanand Kamarang were the other undefeated sides as Paruima and Kako each conceded a loss.
Yesterday – the third day, Paruima were billed to face Kaikan while Kako and Kamarang were fixed to battle in the second match of the double-header. The results of these matches will be published in tomorrow’s issue.
Tuesday’s matches marked the end of the Group stage, which means the top two teams from the two Groups will advance to the semi-final round. The semis take place today with the finale and third-place playoff fixed for Thursday, both at the same venue.
On Sunday when the tournament sponsored by the Petra Organisation with support from Trophy Stall and MVP Sports began, Jawalla was able to secure a 1 – 0 result over Kamarang while Kaikan and Waramadong played to a goalless draw.
In Jawalla’s victory, Rickenson Jacobs’ ninth-minute goal was all that separated the sides at the regulation whistle.
On Monday, Waramadong had a better day at the office as they prevailed, 2 – 1, over Paruima while Jawalla let loose to dismantle Kako, 7 – 1.
The opening match on the second day saw Paruima draw first blood through Mansiz Chambers in the 13th minute then gifted Waramadong with an own goal in the 50th minute.
The 2022 KFC Goodwill Champions, Waramadong, persevered and were rewarded with the lead when Carrinton Isaacs found the back of the net in the 67th minute – a lead that was not squandered.
In the match that followed, Jawalla were led by doubles from Deon Williams (16’ & 33’) and Lebron Hunter (18’ & 21’) as a goal each came from Didan Hunter (40’), Bevon Jones (41’) and Anthonio Isaacs (55’) while Kako’s consolation scorer was Eurl Roland (57’).
This tournament is organised by the Desrey Caesar-Fox Secondary.
