Kaieteur News – With plans to establish more offices countrywide, the Guyana Water Inc. (GWI) is slated to construct its Mabaruma, Region One office soon, at an estimated cost of $43,063,200.
GWI had recently issued an invitation for bids (IFB) for contractors to undertake the project. Eight contractors have submitted bids in response to the water company’s IFB to construct the new office.
At the opening of tenders at the National Procurement and Tender Administration Board (NPTAB) office it was revealed that JR Civil Works bid $39,465,850; Supreme Contracting & Supplies – $41,828,350; Alvin Chowramootoo Construction Service – $42,994,200; Morris Jeffrey Enterprise – $36,614,800; M & D Investments – $80,492,050; Small’s Enterprise – $46,603,400; R. Kissoon Contracting Service – $135,999,500; and Singh & Son Construction – $42,743,850.
Kaieteur News understands that upon completion GWI would be in a better position to connect with its customers across the region thereby improving customer service and improved water infrastructure resulting in a more reliable supply of water.
Additionally, the company said that the execution of this project will also allow for increased access to clean water, enhanced water systems management, more economic opportunities for Region One residents, and improved health and sanitation of households and buildings in the region.
Back in 2021, at the site of the construction of the $23 million GWI Lethem office, Minister of Housing and Water Collin Croal had mentioned that move to construct these offices forms part of a bigger plan to consolidate the offices that fall under the purview of the Ministry.
“As you’re aware, GWI has a number of Regional offices for which we’re renting…so in the long term it is intended for us to have permanent Regional offices and so we’ll have savings in our operational cost but more importantly, the staff will be comfortable,” he had stated.
