Kaieteur News – It was not a huge turn out on Monday for Local Government Elections (LGE) but for the voters who took time off to elect the best representation in their respective communities it was of great importance.
Kaieteur News visited a few polling stations in Kitty and Campbellville and watched as voters trickled in to cast their ballots. At the polling stations election officials said:” it has been a “slow day” for them because of the low turnout but related that more voters trickled in during the afternoon hours.
A few of those voters agreed to give Kaieteur News a feedback on how the process was for them. Among them was former National Cricketer now turned businessman, Steven Jacobs. “The process was smooth very smooth’, Jacobs said while another voter, a woman who did not wish for name to be mentioned in the article related that LGE is of great importance to her. She explained that it allows her to decide who is capable of representing her community. “LGE is of great importance to me, great importance because they are people in charge of communities that don’t do anything with this election you can elect people who care for the community,” the woman said.
Other voters echoed similar sentiments as they exited polling stations.
