Kaieteur News – Police, on Friday, arrested a taxi driver after he forgot a toddler in a locked car in front of his home at Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
The child, a three-year-old boy, was reportedly found in semi-conscious state when the taxi driver returned to his car after leaving him in the locked car for about half an hour.
The child was immediately rushed to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital for medical attention.
According to the doctors, the toddler was dehydrated and needed oxygen. The child was subsequently transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he is presently receiving further medical attention.
The taxi driver reportedly told investigators that he usually picks-up and drops off children to school in his car. He was tasked with dropping off the toddler to a day care.
The taxi driver alleged that after making several trips on Friday, he went home around 09:15 hrs. He reportedly secured his car on the road and went into his house. When he returned 30 minutes later, he observed the child in the back seat of the car in tears and immediately rushed the child to the hospital.
Investigations are ongoing.
