2023 ExxonMobil Boys & Girls U14 Championships…
– New champion to be crowned in both divisions
Kaieteur Sports – The semifinalists of the ExxonMobil Boys and Girls Under-14 Football Championships will spring into action today at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground, to see who advances to the fourth edition of their respective finales.
After yesterday’s quarterfinal round in the Girls’ Division, Tucville, President’s College, Waramuri Top and Bartica claimed their spots in the semifinal round.
For the Boys, Bush Lot, Waramuri Top, Bartica and New Central High cemented their spots as semifinalists.
On Saturday, the most effective win of the Girls’ quarterfinal stage went to Waramuri Top, who blasted the defending champion out of the competition with a 13 – 0 result.
Waramuri Top’s Aaliyah Henry (10) crosses to Mechalle Williams (13) who buries one of the seven goals the pair accumulated.
They were led by Aaliyah Henry’s helmet-trick and Mechalle Williams’ hat-trick as doubles from Mnemosyne Peters and Jada LaCruz along with Soanna Booker’s single and an own goal from the opposition spelled agony for Charlestown for the entire encounter.
Tucville produced an immaculate performance to win 6 – 1 against Ann’s Grove while President’s College kept it tidy with a 3 – 0 triumph over Marian Academy. The other final-eight showdown saw Bartica produce a dominant performance to reign supreme against New Central High, 9 – 0.
In the Boys’ Division, Bush Lot was the first team into the final four with a commanding 6 – 3 win over Chase’s Academic Foundation, while Waramuri Top stood firm to defeat Patentia on penalty kicks, 5 – 4.
Bartica persevered to succeed against Christianburg/Wismar, 1 – 0, as the other quarterfinal match saw New Central High play well to trounce Westminster, 4 – 0.
At stake for the victors in the two categories are the championship trophies along with $300,000 towards a school project, while the second, third, and fourth place finishers will have to settle for $150,000, $75,000, and $50,000, respectively, all for a school initiative, along with the respective trophy.
This tournament is sanctioned by the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) with support from the Ministry of Education, Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport, Demerara Distillers Limited (DDL), Guyana Shore Base Inc. (GYSBI) and MVP Sports.
Kick-off time today is noon (12:00hrs).
