Kaieteur News – The body of Terry LaCruz who went missing on Sunday after his boat had crashed into his father’s boat along the Aruka River, North-West District, Region One, was found on Tuesday night.
A relative of LaCruz related to this publication on Wednesday, that around 19:30hrs on Tuesday Terry’s body was found drifting up the Aruka River, some distance away from where the accident occurred.
Kaieteur News had reported that according to LaCruz’s father, Percy Thomas, the accident occurred just around 21:20hrs on Sunday, while he was heading home with his family from church.
Thomas, who was driving his boat at the time of the accident, said that as he was traversing the river, he saw a speeding boat approaching his direction.
The distraught man said that upon seeing this, he shone his light to alert the driver of the speeding boat of his presence on the river. But according to him, it appeared the driver did not see his boat and ended up crashing straight into his (Thomas) boat bow.
As a result of the collision, that driver of the speeding vessel was flung into the Aruka River.
Following the collision, Thomas discovered that the boat that crashed into his vessel belonged to his son, who was the lone occupant. At the time of the accident, Thomas said that he was transporting his wife and two daughters to their home. Luckily, they did not receive serious injuries.
Subsequently, an alarm was raised and persons in the area responded with boats and they began to comb the river in search for LaCruz. A report was made at Mabaruma Police Station where an investigation was launched.
After his body was recovered, it was taken to the Mabaruma Hospital mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
LaCruz’s relative shared with this publication that up until his death, he used to sell fuel at the Kumaka Water Front area to help maintain his family. This publication understands that he has a daughter and another child on the way. LaCruz was described as a good person and was always willing to help others.
