Kaieteur Sports – The Rose Hall Town Youth and Sports Club (RHTYSC), will be hosting another cricket youth tournament as part of the club cricket development programme.
The club on an annual basis prior to the covid pandemic had hosted a series a cricket tournament including the popular Busta Champion of Champions First Division 40 overs tournament and the launching of the Guyana Bank of Trade and Industry Say Yes/Say NO tournament is the restart of the programme to assist the Berbice Cricket Board in the development of youth talent in the county.
RHTYSC Secretary/CEO Hilbert Foster stated that the tournament would be contested by four secondary schools in the Lower Corentyne area – Lower Corentyne Secondary, JC Chandisingh Secondary, Port Mourant and Corentyne Comprehensive at the Area H Gound on Thursday 7th of June.
The tournament would be played with two semifinals been played at twelve overs per side while the finals would be a fifteen overs per side event.
Foster, who is also the president of the active Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) stated that the tournament main objective is to get youths to say no to drugs, suicide, racism, crime and yes to education, life, religion and national unity.
The winning team would take home a total of fifty thousand dollars worth of educational materials while the runner up would get thirty thousand dollars worth of items.
The two losing semifinalists would each get fifteen thousand each. The Man of the Finals would get five thousand dollars while several attractive financial prizes would be shared out during the presentation ceremony.
Foster further disclosed that the tournament was been organised by the Rose Hall Town Namilco First Division, Farfan and Mendes Under-15, Bakewell under 17, Metro Females, Poonai Pharmacy and Pepsi U19 teams.
The RHTYSC,MS for this year would host at least four tournament including a first division 20/20 tournament involving the eleven teams from the ancient county.
Foster, hailed the support of GBTI, describing them as a true friend of cricket in Berbice and the RHTYSC. He reassured the management of the bank that the tournament would be well organised and would achieve all of its objectives,
Branch Manager of the GBTI Port Mourant Bank Andre Yhap expressed confidence in the organising skills of the RHTYSC and stated that the bank was delighted to be on board as the sponsor.
The sponsorship was part of the bank social responsibility to the general public and part of guiding youths on the correct path of life.
The launching was also attended by RHTYSC Executives Keith Hicks, Tyrone Pottaya and GBTI Officers Radha Ramdihal and Aveeta Guyapersaud.
