Kaieteur Sports – The Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club (KMTC) of Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice, continues to set the pace for the horse racing entities in Guyana.
Dubbed as the premiere horse racing institution in Guyana, the club is living up to its billing. The club will be holding a board of directors meeting at its entity today.
The club is probably the only one that has most of the requirements in place. It has a board of directors that meets regularity. The venue is well laid out with well-kept pavilions with enough accommodation for officials and spectators.
The lawns are well-kept as are the stables and parade area with a starting gate. The KMTC is one of the few tracks where you have a clear view of the entire race. It also has a caretaker who executes daily chores.
The club which is headed by Matriarch and Honorary President, Mrs. Chan Kennard, is in good hands. A veteran in the horse racing industry, Mrs. Kennard has close to 60 years in the business of horse racing and has been with the club since it was built.
She is well supported by Chief Executive Officer, Basil Bactowar, a retired Horse Industry Specialist with British Columbia’s Ministry of Agriculture in Canada.
Bactowar, who has a Master’s Degree in Animal Science and Nutrition, is more than qualified for the job.
According to Bactowar, the club is preparing for its next race meet on Monday, July 3.
Topics to be discussed include the provisional programme, entries, sponsorship, repairs and upgrade of the pavilion, the track and the entire venue including stables and display area.
According to the principals, Security and the Safety of the Patrons and venue are integral issues that are also on the agenda.
A total of six races are listed for the day with over $4M in cash, trophies and other incentives at stake.
The other members of the Board of Directors are Secretary Niketa Ross, Pastor Quesi Henry, Ivan Dipnarine, Isaac Dalloo Walter Bagot, Anil Ganesh, Ramesh Persaud, Earl Harvey, Therbhuwan Jagdeo and Fazil Younas. (Samuel Whyte)
