Kaieteur Sports – Head-of-State, Irfaan Ali, has called on corporate Guyana to support the country’s senior Men’s National football team as they prepare to face Grenada in the preliminary round of the CONCACAF Gold Cup on June 17.
President Irfaan Ali ceremoniously kicking off the inaugural One Guyana President’s Cup football tournament in December.
Flashback! Emery Welshman in control against Belize in the match that carved out the most important piece of GFF history on March 23rd, 2019 at the Leonora Track and Field Facility.
In a statement posted on his official Facebook page, President Ali urged the corporate community to “back our national footballers, both men and women, in their quest to bring glory to our country.”
He expressed confidence in their ability and promised to spare no effort in giving them the best possible chance at being the best they can be.
President Ali’s call to action comes at a time when the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) is struggling to secure the support of corporate entities to sponsor the country’s senior national program.
The Golden Jaguars have been without any international friendlies due to the GFF’s inability to find opponents within their budget.
Despite these challenges, Guyana, behind Coach Jamaal Shabazz, is determined to make its second appearance in the Main Draw of the CONCACAF showpiece following the Golden Jaguars’ debut in 2019.
The team is working hard to prepare for the upcoming match against Grenada, and President Ali’s call for support from the corporate community will be seen as a welcome boost to the GFF.
Football is seen is an important part of Guyana’s culture and heritage, and the success of the national team is a source of pride for all Guyanese.
By rallying behind the team, corporate Guyana has an opportunity to not only support a worthy cause but also to showcase its commitment to national development.
The benefits of supporting the national football team go beyond just the sport itself. It can have a positive impact on the economy, tourism, and social cohesion.
The success of the team can inspire young people to pursue their dreams and achieve greatness, both on and off the field.
President Ali’s call for support from corporate Guyana for the country’s senior Men’s National football team is timely and necessary. It is an opportunity for the corporate community to demonstrate its commitment to national development and to show its support for a sport that has the power to bring people together.
