– Over $6M in cash and prizes at stake
By Samuel Whyte
Kaieteur Sports – In what can be termed as a good move, local horse owners and other connections are praising what they say is a transformation programme published by the Rising Sun Turf Club (RSTC). The club has released a programme for its Independent Horse Race meet for Sunday, May 28, at its Rising Sun West Coast Berbice Venue, which includes a number of races for locally bred horses.
The owners and connections are saying that the RSTC must have been on the same page with the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club (KMTC), which has been advocating for more to be done for local horses and owners.
They said the programme proposed by the RSTC is more of what they have been advocating for and with over $6M in cash and trophies at stake, the owners are happy.
There are seven races listed for the day with a number of those being exclusively for locally bred horses, albeit in different classes.
The feature event is for horses classified D and lower over 1400M for a winning purse of $800,000 and trophy.
There is the 1400M Open Guyana Bred Creole Stakes for a winning take of $600,000 and trophy.
The Three-Year Old Open Guyana Bred 1400M event has a winner’s money of $500,000.
The next ranked event is for the G3 Non-Winners in Guyana and the H and lower class horses over 1400M for a stake at $450,000.
For the animals classified J3 Maiden and lower, has a winner’s purse of $400,000 with over 1400M to aim for.
There are two races for L class horses; the first will cater for L class open animals and they will be racing for a top prize of $300,000.
The other is for the L- Non-earners of $100, 000 in last 6 months (L class horses that have not earned over $100,000 in the last 6 months over 1100M for a first prize of $200,000.
The event will be conducted using the rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority.
Post Time is 1200hrs.
