Headley/Weekes Tri-Series
Final Match – Day 1
Team Headley vs. Team Weekes
– Permaul passes 600 1st Class wickets
Kaieteur Sports – On a day Guyanese left-arm spinner Veerasammy Permaul entered the 600-wicket club in 1st class cricket, his team played themselves into a strong position with a run leading with Day 2’s action continuing today at Coolidge.
The final match of the 3-game series bowled off in Antigua yesterday as Team Headley, mustered an ordinary 1st innings 177 all out in 65.2 overs.
Kavem Hodge (67), Akeem Jordan (37) and Kieran Powell (23), were the main scorers, as the bulk of the work was done by the left-arm spinner Permaul, 1st class cricket’s leading wicket-taker, who crossed the 600-wicket mark in 1st class cricket, returning 3-16 and left-arm seamer Dominic Drakes (3-17).
Hodge and Jordan’s 7th wicket partnership of 71 was Team Headley’s highest amidst a dismal batting exhibition, as Permaul and company did well to keep them below 200 in their 1st innings.
Old Guyana Harpy Eagles teammates, the West Indies Test pair of Tagenarine Chanderpaul (12) and Raymon Reifer (34), added 48 for the 2nd wicket, after losing opener Zachary McCaskie (2).
When the partnership was broken captain Alick Athanaze was 7 not out with Weekes XI 63-1, trailing by 116, with day 2 set to be an exciting day. Spinner Chaim Holder was excellent during his burst grabbing 2-2.
Action continues today from 9:30h.
