Headley/Weekes Tri-Series…
Final Match -Team Headley vs. Team Weekes
Kaieteur Sports – The final match at Coolidge Cricket Ground of the Headley/Weekes Tri-Series is set to be a thriller, as both teams will look to end the tournament on a high note, following two electrifying matches.
Team Headley, having lost their first game to West Indies Academy by 7 wickets, arguably the best team of the 3-match series, should look to end their stint on a good note. Team Weekes on the other hand will desperately need to secure a win, having let the WI-A off the hook in the previous games, which played to a draw.
Having posted 401/107 in the 1st and 2nd innings of the last game, Team Weekes batsmen will be in peak form coming into today’s game. A number of their batsmen hit half-centuries during their 400 score while Test opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul showed some good signs, with his 2nd innings 53 helping Team Weekes draw the match.
Kevin Sinclair, Brandon King, Jahmar Hamilton and Zachary McCaskie will lead the batting charge following their fifties in the previous game. One worry should be their bowlers, most of which including leading wicket taker in 1st class, Veerasammy Permaul, returned horrible figures, thanks mainly to the WI-A batsman Kirk McKenzie, who scored a double ton.
Fast-bowlers Jair McAllister and Nial Smith especially, will need to have a better game come today with more expected from frontline spinners Permaul and Sinclair. Team Headley had a long rest and should be fully restored as they face a strong team, but aside from their captain, their batting order looked shaky during the opening game.
Captain Joshua DaSilva, who opened the competition with a century, will need support from the likes of Darren Bravo, Kieran Powell, Kaveem Hodge and others who all had poor outings and will need to bounce back strongly for the final bout. The last time Nyeem Young, Chaim Holder and Akeem Jordan looked good with the ball, but will need to be more disciplined against an in-form lineup of batsmen.
The final match is expected to bowl off at 9:30h.
