Kaieteur Sports – The Guyana Boxing Association (GBA) in collaboration with Bris-O Promotions will host the ‘Return of the Scorpion’ boxing card, slated for the 21st May at the National Gymnasium located along the Mandela Avenue, following an official launching held yesterday at the Mirage Lounge, Alberttown.
The Bris-O Promotions play an important role in promoting and developing the sport of boxing in Guyana. Long serving promoter Seon Bristol is elated to have this card reintroduced into the local calendar, following an absence to the card due to the recent Covid 19 pandemic.
According to him, “The Return of the Scorpion is back, and it promises to be bigger and better. The event is billed to be exciting, from the first bell to the very last. This will be one night of fistic fury featuring some of the best pound for pound boxers in the region.”
Organizations like Bris-O Promotions provide a platform for boxers to showcase their skills, while competing against each other, as well as international pugilist which also aid in their career building process. Boxing has a rich history in here, with many talented boxers hailing from this very soil. To say the least; over the years, Guyana has been able to produce eight world boxers thus far and currently has a large stock of fighters destined to compete at the world championship.
However, the ‘Return of the Scorpion’ is scheduled to have four elite international bouts as well as four junior’s bouts. Elton Dhary is expected to headline the event, amongst fighters out of Barbados, St Lucia, Trinidad and Tobago, Guaduloupe, Suriname and Jamaica.
This card will feature local fighters such as Elton Dharry, Dexter Marques, Shaquan James, Tiquan Sampson, Tifonia Barker, Abiola and Alesha Jackman, Jewel Williamson, Jamal Eastman and Emannuel Pompey.
The GBA are currently in talks with the different association across the Caribbean. At present, fighters out of Columbia and Panama have already hinted their interest in competing at this event while other territories will pen their participation in the coming weeks.
