Dear Editor,
My soul cries out for Guyana. Most sections of the media and the Opposition all seem to be concerned with issues that are above the ordinary person. Both media and Opposition need to concentrate and highlight more and in a concentrated way, those issues that affect the small man.
Mr. Glenn Lall is doing a wonderful job with keeping the focus on the oil industry. That is a bread and butter issue as the small man will never benefit from the oil dollars.
There are other issues. Guyanese are being held ransom in Guyana by the passport office. People are there overnight and still can’t get a passport. I am not aware of any news about this problem. This affects the small man because the big shots are getting their passports and they are not standing in any line in the hot sun. The APNU had fixed the passport issues and things flowed beautifully. What has happened in a few short years?
NIS is another inept and inefficient managed operation. No one cares and there is no accountability. The small man again suffers. But there is another issue that as Guyanese we must face and deal with. Both political parties confront this problem because of race.
Both parties must have some token ministers of the other race, just for cosmetic reasons. This results in massive inefficiencies. In most cases, those persons are chosen because they bring nothing to the table and therefore pose no threat. All of the token Ministers in this administration are just along for the ride.
Regards,
David Purcell
