Kaieteur News – No one is above the law.
In concept and theory, there is a comforting ring about that sentence. There is a powerful, inspiring, electrical surge in all that those six words in that short sentence signify. National leaders, the rich, the famous, the believed untouchable, and the unreachable, have all been brought down by the majestic justness of the law, when it is allowed to function to its fullest flower.
In its simplest, most profound essence: break the law, and there will be consequences. This is as sure as the earth revolves on its axis with unerring constancy, with timeless, unchanging perfection.
All of this is upside down, rendered impotent, in what has been happening in Guyana, what has been inflicted upon Guyanese, by a vile and vicious group of individuals, most likely of local political origins, and political backing. Guyanese have been mauled and made into objects of contempt, through secret concoctions of the malicious and the reprehensible by this group of believed politically sponsored individuals.
Decent, hardworking, principled Guyanese citizens have been attacked and assaulted in ways indescribable, other than to say that characteristics have been of an animalistic, primitive, criminal kind. Yet even those are too kind, too limited, to encircle what has been the record of this group using technology to intimidate, silence. Online facilities have been misused to spit venom on those held disagreeable, hence targets for goring and gutting.
The giveaway of the group’s identity is that those smeared and scorched have found disfavor in high PPPC Government circles. The unforgivable crime of conscientious citizens is to disagree, worse yet to object publicly. The crime that calls for special punishment is when outspoken citizens keep on protesting, continue standing against, and repeatedly express positions that clash with the narratives of a Government that fail scrutiny. There has been no limit to the vileness that is then unleashed on commentators, reporters, and other public contributors.
What is troubling is that this group, widely accepted as a shadowy PPPC Government affiliate, is well protected. Its members are, for all intents and purposes, insulated from the reach of the law when terrible crimes have been committed.
Libel is a start, with untold defamations following, but the group is barricaded from the law. This group has been immune from the long arm of the Guyana Police Force, and its cybercrime unit. It is beyond doubt that this Government group of schemers and lawbreakers live in an extraordinary safe harbor that is unbreachable by police probe, societal wrath and disgust, and the scales of justice.
Because of all these realities, and what has been our own experience over the years, including recently, we at this publication have to sharply question how blind justice really is in Guyana (under the PPPC Government), and how come this group is above the law (as shielded by the same Government). We return to that powerful statement: no one is above the law. Plus another worthy of deep consideration: government of laws and not men.
Clearly, the law applies to most Guyanese, but not this online group of Government fanatics, who wound and scar patriotic Guyanese utilizing their constitutional rights, doing their job, being responsible citizens. It is interesting and helpful that Vice President Jagdeo finally found the light inside to condemn publicly what was the work of this odious online group, but that didn’t go an inch further. Noticeably, soon after he spoke, the post was removed.
Is this secretive online group bigger than, or related to, the government? Or, is the PPPC Government up to its usual low tricks of saying what is nice in public, but with a wink and a nod continues to condone what is criminal to the core? Or, is the PPPC Government holding this group as a reserve stealth force to set free, when necessary, to bash Guyanese into submission?
It is either there is group beyond the control of the State, or it enjoys the full backing of major political authors to wreak havoc. This is what makes a mockery of no one is above the law. And this is a government of laws and not men. What about those men, and bringing them to justice?
