Dear Editor,
It was in poor religious taste to have to temporarily discontinue in its midst, for a period of time on Thursday evening (April 20), the Eid programme, ‘Glory of Eid’ on state TV to bring a scheduled programme, which programme conflicted with religious tenets and principles.
This might have come about due to the sighting of the Eid moon and late announcement of the observance. State media programme managers, cognizant of its commitment to its advertisers and the nature of the broadcast, should have duly advised the producer/presenter of the Eid broadcast of this. ‘Glory of Eid’ should have commenced after the scheduled programme. A programme, in honour of this auspicious occasion in the Muslim calendar, was somewhat shabbily treated as a lack of understanding in this regard was evident. The opportunity is taken belatedly to extend Eid Mubarak to the Muslim community.
Sincerely,
Shamshun Mohamed
