By Rawle Toney
Kaieteur News – The Mackenzie High School, Linden Technical Institute (LTI), Christianburg Wismar Secondary and New Silvercity Secondary School have advanced to Saturday’s ExxonMobil-sponsored, New Era Entertaining Inter-School Football Championships’ semi-finals.
As teams battle and up the ante to see who will top their respective groups, in the latest round of matches, LTI ended Wisburg Secondary’s hopes of making it out of Group B when they rallied to a 4 – 1 win.
Dixie Peters (4’), Bryan Kendall (9’), Kemar McLaren (40’) and Phillip Lawrence (53’) found the back of the net for LTI to secure their second win of the tournament, which went along with a draw, which saw them ending their Group stage unbeaten on seven points.
Wisburg needed a win to remain in contention for advancing, but their defeat to LTI was their second in the tournament. They ended with three points, with their only win against Kwakwani Secondary.
The Linden Technical Institute will advance as the top team from Group B.
Meanwhile, New Silvercity Secondary booked their spot in Saturday’s semi-finals with an emphatic 5 – 1 win over Harmony Secondary, thanks to a double from Rawle Henry (6’, 42’), followed by single strikes from Latrell John (25’), Marvin Cort (50’) and Clinton Charles (55’).
Jayden Johnson was the only player from Harmony Secondary to register on the scoresheet in his side’s losing cause.
Christianburg Wismar Secondary School picked-up three crucial points yesterday with a 1 – 0 win over New Silvercity Secondary.
Khriston Louis’ 13th-minute goal helped his side to pick up their second win and move to six points from as many matches. They will play Harmony Secondary today.
New Silvercity Secondary, on the other hand, will likely finish second in Group A, with yesterday’s results being their first defeat to go along with their two wins (six points).
The winning school will receive $400,000, which will go towards a project at their institution, equalling the first-place purse.
Second place will receive $200,000, and the school coming in third will collect $100,000, with all prize money going towards a school project.
