Dear Editor,
The school term was scheduled to begin on Monday after the usual Easter break. The Ministry of Education exercise poor judgment in allowing schools to be out for school for GECOM nomination day activities. GECOM should be blamed for not looking for other options to facilitate its nomination day activities without disrupting children’s education.
Every elections affect school children. Thus, 2 school days are taken away from our children. On nomination day and election. At a time, when the nation is recovering from learning loss, it seems that the Minister who herself, instead of functioning as a Minister was seen busy with nomination day events.
In the future, the Ministry needs to inform the public of its plan to cater for learning loss everyone GECOM disrupts the school system. With a budget of $6 Billion, better arrangement can be made. The options are many such as NDC buildings, RDC buildings, markets, a sports ground, etc. GECOM clearly didn’t think about the nation’s children when it asked for these schools to be closed.
Your Truly,
Worried Parent
