Jagdeo Stable dominates with multiple victories
Kaieteur News – Despite a number of challenges that included spills and broken bones where a horse had to be put down and jockeys suffered serious injuries including broken bones, the Port Mourant Turf Club, Easter Cup, horserace meet was successfully held at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne Berbice.
The large holiday crowd was treated to a full day of action. In the end it was the Jagdeo Racing Stable that was large and in charge with Champion Trainer T. Jagdeo having a good day with three victories and a number of other placings. The eight-race card had over $10M in cash, trophies and other incentives at stake.
The feature open event sponsored by Banks DIH Limited with a whopping first prize of $2M over 1mile saw the Jagdeo stables taking the Lion’s share with a first and third spot. Our Stuie ridden by Jockey D. Khelawan bid its time with a blistering run down the homestretch to come away with the victory. Stable mate Wild Texas Tom with Nicholas Patrick finished third. Splitting them was Ariana’s Vision with Boodramsingh in the stirrups. Coup D’Etat with Razack on the perch failed to execute and finishing fourth.
A few other animals were withdrawn before the start of that event.
The race for E and lower and North American 1st time starters in Guyana saw Comverter of the Slingerz racing stable ridden by Anderson having too much moves for Soca Symphony, Creemore and Nice Company to take the event.
The H class and lower event saw Smoking Heels of the Jagdeo stable with Khelawan on the mount in red hot form as it dusted the likes of Bank Note, Nuclear Fire and Memories in that order.
The three year old and over Guyana Bred maiden event was won by Tizway, with Storm Town, Royal Flight and Hardcore having a hard time.
The event for Three-year-old Guyana and West Indian Bred animals saw The Jagdeo Stable being crowned King of the day as Gypsy King with Nicholas Patrick on the Mount beating the likes of Rachel, Red Ruby and El Dorado Queen for their third win.
Republican of the Elcock Stable with Semple in the saddles was too hot to handle as it ran away with the incident filled L class open event. Amazing Grace, Dan Star and Not This Time were the others that placed.
During that race two horses, Miss Olympic and Tiny fell and were injured. One of the animals had to be put down due to its injuries.
The J class and lower maiden event saw Quiet Warrior blew up a storm as it won from Miss Republic, Judge Not and Hurricane Lane.
Sarkar piloted by Colin Ross took pole position in the L class open even as Perfect Dream and Top Rankin brought up the rear.
The Jagdeo Stable was the top stable followed by the Elcock stables. Jockey Khelawan was the top rider on show. They were presented with accolades compliments of the Trophy Stall.
