Kaieteur News – A total of six accidents reportedly took place along the Linden/Lethem trail on Friday leaving one dead and several injured.
All of the vehicles involved were enroute to Lethem for the annual Rodeo celebrations and the accidents along the trail definitely marred the journey for many especially the loved ones of 28-year-old Abdul Straker of Robb Street, Bourda, Georgetown.
Straker died after the Ministry of Public Work’s pick-up, which he was traveling in toppled along the Mabura trail.
According to police, Straker was among five passengers in the vehicle when the driver lost control while trying to negotiate a bend.
They were all rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex where Straker died while receiving treatment. The other four passengers and the driver survived but they were all admitted with severe injuries.
The accident that took the life of Straker was not the only one that occurred along the trail. There were five others.
Just hours before Straker met his demise another pick-up flipped off a bridge at Kilometer 33, injuring five passengers including the driver. They too had to be rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex for treatment.
A third pick-up was involved in an accident during the wee hours of Friday. The vehicle reportedly attached to Safari Tours had turned turtle into a ditch. Multiple passengers were injured as well. A photo of that accident, showed a bleeding woman sitting on the laterite road with multiple bruises to her body.
Three more accidents were reported before the day ended and all were vehicles that turned turtle along the trail.
One of them involved a truck; another was that of a fourth pick-up while the final accident involved an SUV reportedly belonging to the Neighbourhood Democratic Councillor from the East Bank of Demerara.
