Kaieteur News – Bharrat Jagdeo risks driving himself crazy when he becomes so consumed with extending his propaganda. He went to commemorate a true Guyanese man, Cheddi Jagan, and the best that Jagdeo can do was to incite party faithful to run to Facebook and let their messages fill up that space, overwhelm the complaints of naysayers, critics, and dissidents.
In his call to social media action, Jagdeo throws caution to the winds, exposing his growing nervousness. Meanwhile, America is concerned about its business interests in Guyana, but Jagdeo is most focused on getting followers to Facebook, so that his political interests succeed, viz., staying in power. After all the big talk about what the PPP/C Government has done, how much it has done, and how great it is when measured against its political opponents, Jagdeo still needs what he believes is a rousing call to arms to his comrades to take the battle to the open frontier, the more or less uncontrolled sphere, of Facebook. What is conspicuous about this call from Jagdeo, especially at such an event, is his urgency. The PPP/C Government is doing all these wonderful things that benefit all Guyanese, and yet Facebook is needed to be the proving ground. That is his interest.
Clearly, Guyana’s Vice President is now fully committed to taking a page out of that of another former president, himself under siege, but one resorting to all kinds of dodges and manoeuvres to shake off the ants clinging to his mismanagement of oil. What we have noticed is that former President Bharrat Jagdeo is focused too heavily and sharply at lashing out in growing rage, rather than genuinely engage. In his evaluation of his predicament, made by his own hand, Jagdeo clearly has now settled for political operations intended to distract or intimidate.
It is a numbers game, and some of the faithful are beginning to have doubts about him. Hence, the Vice President’s call to rally the shaky, through emphasis on quantity over quality. In other words, flood every available channel with government half-truths, questionable truths, and truths that are nothing but deceptions. There is only one definition of truth, and it is that truth is truth, and it stands up to any kind of scrutiny, any attack, and any force, no matter how overpowering. The fullness of truth and facts have their own persuasive power, unchallengeable light. There is no need to scurry over to Facebook to broadcast how the PPP/C’s record is so good; it speaks for itself, or it doesn’t. This is more of his hiding from the independent mainstream media, and using Facebook proxies to load up with what hates any light.
As he knows very well, in the sometimes murky and open-ended realm of Facebook, it is anything goes, with people saying anything, no matter how inaccurate, and the effects register. It is called the power of the crowd, which is what we think that Dr. Jagdeo, when cornered, seeks to instigate. In sum, what Jagdeo did at Babu Jaan was engage in some good old-fashioned rabblerousing. If the record of the PPP/C Government in this time of oil is so clean, so transparent, and so beneficial to all citizens of this country, then it stands anywhere before anyone, naysayers and others of like kind. Citizens do not need convincing, nor do they need any reminding, for they would have been living with government openness, leadership credibility, and a stream of programs that speak to monies cleanly spent. Most of all, citizens would be familiar with how the PPP/C Government in general, and the Vice President himself, has managed or mismanaged the rich oil sector. This same oil is America’s primary interest, a worrying one, which he calls serious. What Jagdeo should be strong and serious about he is running scared.
What is conspicuous about the Vice President is that he sings many sweet songs. When called upon, however, to face the music, he disappears. His growing handicap is that more and more Guyanese now recognize when they are being used by Jagdeo for his own purposes. He is pushing supporters to Facebook; why not push them into the streets for Guyanese interests, and not his own?
