…looking to make mark in Canada’s music industry
Kaieteur News – Joshua Alexander Elkana, a Guyanese who migrated to Canada on last year, is looking to make his mark on the Canadian music industry.
Elkana who goes by the stage name ‘Xander’, recently (March 25, 2023) released his first song called ‘Lifeline’.
During an interview with The Waterfalls, Xander said, “I recorded ‘Lifeline’ a few months ago when I followed my friend to the studio. I had no intentions of recording that night, but my producer started playing the instrumental and I just started singing the chorus ‘lifeline’ and everyone was telling me to go to the mic and put something down. Half an hour later, ‘Lifeline’ was created.”
The young artiste shared that growing up in a musical household helped nurture him onto a musical path. Being an artiste is something he had always envisioned for himself.
“My dad was apart of the GPF band as a drummer and my uncle was a clarinet player for GDF. Apart from me being inspired by my dad and uncle musically, I spent most of my life in church, where my friends and I would link up every Sunday at 6:30 am to play the drums, keyboards and use the microphones for fun, hoping that one of us would become a celebrity one day,” Xander shared.
Having migrated to Canada, Xander shared that his team at Fuse Entertainment, have continued giving him love, support and encouragement, all contributing towards the development of his craft.
“Fuse Entertainment is a company my friends and I started two months ago. We’re a team that offers everything an artist would need to produce and promote music. We have a videographer, photographer, music producer as well as an event organiser.”
He added that while he haven’t known the members of Fuse Entertainment a long time, they’re continued support towards him “keeps me going” and expressed his gratitude for them.
When asked about what it entailed migrating to Canada and starting a musical career, Xander said, “The sacrifices I needed to make, networking as well as balancing school during the day, studying and spending quality time at the studio at nights.”
Xander shared that his plans for 2023 are to “graduate and drop bangers all year round.”
He shared that on April 12, he will be releasing his second song called ‘So Beautiful’.
The upcoming artists added, “Most of my friends and some of my family had no idea I was actually going to take music seriously, but so far, I’ve been receiving a few DMs from Guyanese showing love.”
