Dear Editor,
A feeble, non-sensical and shabby defence of Speaker Manzoor Nadir was made (KN March 30, 2023) by a murky individual on behalf of an obscure entity called the ACG (Association of Confused Guyanese). The writer(s) state: ‘First, the allegations made by Roopnarine have no factual basis’.
Now this is cliché and utter crap as all the conditions pertaining to the Speaker’s predisposition were pinpointed and highlighted and not even one was refuted by the individual whom I think I know! Why would this individual hide behind a creepy, mysterious, and hideous organization and not publish his name. The reason is, he is ashamed of the organization which he describes to his close friends as obnoxious.
The Gas to Shore Bill regarding Guyana’s most expensive venture in the history of the country was hurled aside in the rubble heap! The ACG article written by this coward indicates ‘His actions are therefore no different from previous PNCR Speakers Dr. Barton Scotland and Raphael Trotman.’
Now this is tantamount to declaring ‘my brother is a thief, so I have the right to be a thief too.’ Such is the poor mindset of this individual who is a PPP supporter who will swallow any pill given to people like him without questioning the effect and outcome because they wanted favours including contracts from the government.
The mysterious writer said, ‘Roopnarine is attempting to question the professionalism and destroy the integrity of the Speaker of the Parliament.’ What integrity does Speaker Nadir have when he refused to discipline a Minister who told a female opposition Member of Parliament that she needs a DILDO to pleasure herself? What professionalism does the speaker have when he has refused every bill introduced in Parliament by the opposition? The former United Force Presidential candidate in 1992 who descended into a taxi driver and was parachuted into Minister of Tourism- a role in which he has performed poorly. Simply put, the Speaker is biased and has no shame in his partisan behaviour.
The anonymous writer also said, ‘Roopnarine should tell us how many PPP/C Bills were rejected by APNU+AFC during their 5-year term (2015-2020). Or tell us how many PPP/C Bills the Coalition allowed for tabling.’ Well, here we go again. A person commits a murder by stabbing someone. Does it matter if five or fifty wounds were inflicted? This writer should be ashamed to indulge in “tit-for-tat’ strategy in terms of the nation’s business. He has allowed himself to be bamboozled by PPP operatives.
As for undermining the credibility of the government, it must be pointed out that this present government, like its predecessor, is governing by the slimmest of margins – one (1) seat- and therefore it is very dangerous and pathetic for the government to ignore or cast aside the 48 percent of the electorate that voted for the opposition. If the former speaker lacked judicious qualities, then it would be foolish why the present speaker should conduct the affairs of the nation in similar idiotic manner? What is playing out here is the ‘abee andayuh’ mentality which will further divide the country along racial lines. I conclude with the adage: Two wrongs do not make a right, and I hope this ACG hideous person will be bold enough to identify himself.
Leyland Chitlall Roopnaraine
