2023 Milo U18 Schools Football Tournament…
– Kicks off 9th edition on Saturday at MoE Ground
Kaieteur News – The final 32 teams along with the entire schedule for the 2023 edition of the Milo Under-18 Secondary Schools Football Tournament were officially released yesterday by the organising team, Petra, as they prepare for kick off on Saturday at the Ministry of Education (MoE) Ground.
Spice Garden Restaurant, located poolside in Brandsville Hotel, was the venue where one of Petra’s Co-Directors, Troy Mendonca, gave an in depth look into the tournament.
Qualifying action in the Nestlé/Massy Distribution-sponsored event began two weeks ago with a pool of 48 teams that saw sixteen teams unfortunately missing the cut.
The teams that remain for the commencement of the ninth edition hail from Regions 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 and 10.
They are: Annandale, Ann’s Grove, President’s College, Charity, Berbice Educational Institute, Vryman’s Irvine, New Amsterdam, Bartica, Bush Lot, Bygeval, Vergenoegen, Westminster, Patentia, West Demerara, Santa Rosa, Christianburg/Wismar, McKenzie High, St. Cuthbert’s Mission, Dora, Carmel, Charlestown, North Ruimveldt, Cummings Lodge, East Ruimveldt, Chase’s Academy, Marian Academy, New Central High, Dolphin, Queen’s College, St. Stanislaus College, West Ruimveldt and St. Winifred’s.
The Schools that regrettably found the exit were Golden Grove, Canje, Berbice High, Manchester, Uitvlugt, Vreed en Hoop, Stewartville, 8th of May, Cotton Field, Lodge, Bishop’s High, Morgan’s Learning Centre, Tucville, Freeburg and Queenstown.
St. Joseph’s High and St. John’s College are the two teams on Stand-by should a team or two from the final 32 uncharacteristically opt to leave.
The tournament’s current format will see eight Groups consisting of four teams each, but according to Mendonca, they have begun to explore the option of adding another Group due to the solid response given from the schools involved. However, the organising team is yet to make their final decision on the move.
This Saturday, March 4, following the march past which is scheduled to commence at 10:30 hrs, the first round of the tournament begins.
At 11:00 hrs, Marian Academy will battle East Ruimveldt then at 12:45 hrs, Bartica will oppose Bush Lot. In the other two matches planned, Carmel will face Bygeval at 14:00 hrs while North Ruimveldt collide with Patentia from 15:45 hrs.
On Sunday, March 5, Annandale and Westminster kick off day two at 11:00 hrs then Berbice Educational Institute and Charlestown Secondary meet from 12:45hrs. The remaining matches will see Chase’s Academy and Dora thrash it out from 14:00 hrs while Ann’s Grove and Queen’s College close the day off from 15:45 hrs.
This edition of the tournament is sponsored by Nestlé (Milo), sanctioned by the Ministry of Education and Guyana Football Federation and supported by Massy Distribution, Guyana Industrial Minerals Inc. (GINMIN), General Equipment & Supplies, Inc. (GENEQUIP) and MVP Sports.
