Chrissy’s Delight_Gourmet Style: An oasis of flavours

Kaieteur News – Her enduring fascination with culinary art has led to a budding career for 35-year-old Christine Douglas-Vyfhuis, who is also a wife, mother and educator. Christine is the proprietor of Chrissy’s Delight_Gourmet Style, a business she co-owns with her husband Mark Vyfhuis.
During an interview with The Waterfalls, Christine shared, “I have been baking and cooking since I was in my teens for family and friends. These opportunities allowed me to try new recipes, and be creative, innovative, and unique in my product presentation and taste.”
From there, she explained that she continued to expand her cooking and baking skills while widening her knowledge of various aspects of the culinary world.
Back in 2017, Christine was given the opportunity to showcase her culinary concepts and handiwork to an audience of enthusiastic entrepreneurs and tourists at Herdmanston Lodge’s Christmas Village and Modeling Exhibition.
“I presented homemade coconut, rum and raisin, and strawberry cheesecake ice cream, slices of black, fruit, and cheesecakes as well. These items were an immediate hit. The guests enjoyed the samples, including the proprietors of the Lodge, commending me for my creativity and overall product pitch. This was a glimpse of the opportunities for growth and development in the future for me as an aspiring Culinary Artist.”
The businesswoman shared that her greatest inspiration comes from the desire to make people happy through her products. “Good food makes people happy, and I take great pride, joy and commitment in catering to my customers, family and friends’ needs,” she added.
Christine shared that in 2020, she bought a Mother’s Day lunch basket for her mother from a popular food establishment. However, she shared that the food was cold and insipid.
“At that moment, I recognized that I had what it takes to create my basket of high quality. I was already receiving quite a bit of recognition and praise from friends, family and a growing clientele. On Father’s Day the said year, the Chrissy’s Delight_Gourmet Style paid homage to fathers with a lunch basket event which was a success and a great boost of confidence.”
She explained that against the backdrop of the inaugural Father’s Day event, many products were birthed such as their flavour boxes, cheese-in-a-jar and dessert boxes.
“I am continuously motivated and encouraged by my husband, mom, family, pastors and friends.”
Christine stated, “I do believe there is no limit to what we can prepare at Chrissy’s Delight, since we constantly challenge ourselves to try new exotic recipes.”
Some items on their menu are: appetizers – cheese straws, chicken puffs, pine tarts, white pudding, cheese rolls, vegetable & chicken samosas, patties, teriyaki pineapple meatballs, mac cheese balls, sweet & tangy chicken wings, ripe plantain empanadas, mango and corn salsa, coconut choka, deviled eggs, pan-fried chicken dumplings. For entrees customers can enjoy lasagnas, creamy garlic linguine, chicken fettuccine alfredo, vegetable fried rice, stuffed bell peppers, Mediterranean grilled chicken couscous, French onion soup, honey baked salmon or trout with lemon and sweet honey pulled pork and for desserts, homemade ice-cream, customized cheesecakes, red velvet and chocolate cakes, Spanish flan, fruity mousses, cinnamon and lemon rolls.
“My long-term goals are to expand services, increase production, and diversify our menus. I also plan to further develop our already-owned real estate into a preparation and distribution facility fuelled by e-money transactions and to start our restaurant,” Christine said.
The businesswoman noted that she aspires to create a world-class dining experience catering to the exquisite gastronomical needs and urbane tastes of those who choose Chrissy’s Delight. The business caters for birthday parties, anniversaries, graduations and other events.
Chrissy’s Delight_ Gourmet Styles is located at President’s College Road Golden Grove, East Coast Demerara. The business is opened Monday to Saturday from 08:00 hours to 17:00 hours.
