Kaieteur News – Linden entertainment company Access Entertainment is focusing on showcasing women empowerment as they prepare to host this year’s Linden J’ouvert slated for 4th March at Rasville, Wismar, Linden. This annual event which is customarily held on the eve of Linden’s Mashramani celebrations is themed ‘Women in Soca (WIS), which will see only female DJ’s and Selectors headlining the event. Special Guest DJ Ana from Trinidad and Tobago will be the highlight of the evening, as well as Linden birthed and only female selector Bruuutal.
Executive member of Access Entertainment Anthony Whyte told The Waterfalls that the aim of the event is to give recognition to women in the entertainment industry. “We are always hearing about male DJ’s and selectors in the entertainment industry, so what we want to do this year is not pull off a regular wet fete but to recognize women in the entertainment industry and that women can be DJs and selectors just as men,” he said.
The event forms part of the official Republic calendar of activities for Region 10. DJ Ana said she was DJing since the age of eight and is anticipating an exceptional night of superlative entertainment with Lindeners. “It has been an amazing journey, I am so happy and grateful for where I am at today and I appreciate the support I get from you guys…I am really excited to come and see you guys,” she said.
Meanwhile Aliyah Dey who goes by the stage name Selector Bruuutal will also headline the event. She is Linden’s lone female selector and has been doing so since the age of 12. Meanwhile, the event will commence at 20:00hrs and will have two zones: the wet and the dry zone to facilitate patrons in each zone. Early bird tickets are $1500, general $2000 and VIP $5000.
