Kaieteur News – Flamboyant right-handed opening batsman Patrick Rooplall struck a magnificent, unbeaten 138 for Caribbean Cricket Club 2 against Sunrisers Masters in the first semi-final of the Essequibo Softball Cricket League’s (ESCL) Over-40, T20 competition.
Playing at Queenstown ground on the Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), last Sunday, Rooplall clobbered 14 sixes and seven fours as Caribbean Cricket Club 2 raced to a formidable 330-2 from the 20-overs. Sunrisers Masters replied with 259-8 at the expiration of the 20-overs.
Apart from Rooplall, Eshwar Singh also batted with confidence to make a steady 77 laced with five sixes and four fours.
When Sunrisers Masters batted, former Essequibo Senior Inter-County batsman Ravi Beharry slammed an impressive 89 which counted nine sixes and six fours. Latchman Persaud contributed 44 as Yaseer Mohhamed grabbed 3-45 from his maximum four overs and he got support from Luckiram Bridgemohan who picked up 2-32 off three overs, delivering for the reigning champion Caribbean Cricket Club 2.
The second semi-final is slated for this Sunday at the same facility commencing at 10 am between Invaders Masters and Devonshire Castle Sports Club.
The final is set for March 12th at a venue to be announced.
Meanwhile, the competition is being played in memory of Dave Tajeshwar, an ardent supporter of softball. His brother Vo Tajeshwar is one of the main sponsors for this year’s edition again.
