Kaieteur News – The National Gymnasium on Mandela Avenue will be a hive of activity this evening when Sparta Boss take on Back Circle, and Bent Street oppose Tiger Bay in the semi-final round of the inaugural Rocks Auto Trans and Spares Parts ‘Legendary Cup’ Futsal Championship.
The first semi-final match at 20:00hrs will pit powerhouse Bent Street against the re-emerging Tiger Bay.
The Bent Street outfit, littered with senior national players including Daniel Wilson, Clive Nobrega, Marcus Wilson, Akel Clarke, and Trayon Bobb, defeated Vengy 4-0 in the quarterfinal round.
On the other hand, Tiger Bay, which features quality players such as Deon Alfred, Keoma Gravesande, Solomon Austin, and Alpha Fletchman, brushed aside Gold is Money 3-0 in their quarterfinal fixture.
Meanwhile, the second semi-final at 21:00hrs will add another chapter in the titanic rivalry between Back Circle and Sparta Boss.
Back Circle, comprising the likes of Selwyn Williams, Stephon Reynolds, Jermaine Beckles, and Stephon McLean, edged Stabroek Ballers 4-3 in the previous round to set up this mouth-watering contest.

On the other side, Sparta Boss, led by the experienced line-up of Sheldon Shepherd, Eusi Phillips, Jermin Junior, and Pernell Schultz, battled past Team Cruel of BV 3-1 to seal their appearance in the semi-final section.
Wayne ‘Harry’ Griffith, the tournament’s coordinator, reassured that systems are in place for what he dubbed as “fireworks in the gym.”
“The event has exceeded expectations, and the quality of play that has been exhibited must be commended. The teams have certainly delivered, and the fans have been very supportive and appreciative of the competition and couldn’t have asked for a better grouping of matches of the semi-final section,” Griffith said.
He further stated that, “These four teams have been the best in the event to date so it’s fitting that they remain in the business end of the tournament and have the chance to be crowned the maiden champion of the competition. It’s been an incident-free tournament, the teams and the fans have exhibited discipline and patience and we are very appreciative as we aim to end the event on a high note.”
The resulting winners will progress to the final, pencilled for February 25th. The losers will compete in the third-place playoff.
The winner of the tournament will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy.
On the other hand, the second, third, and fourth-place finishers will receive $250,000, $150,000, and $100,000 respectively.
On the individual side, the Most Valuable Player (MVP) will receive one motorcycle. Similarly, a patron will receive one motorcycle on the night of the final.
