Kaieteur News – Guyanese broadcaster, author, folklorist, Stabroek News Columnist, Cultural Enthusiast and host of the ‘Guyana Cook-Up’ Saturday morning TV show, Allan Fenty, has died.
Fenty reportedly died in his sleep on Saturday at his home. He was 78-years-old.
The Guyana Press Association (GPA) paid homage in a release. The GPA noted that Mr. Fenty started his working life as a teacher on the West Demerara; he was a trained teacher.
Former GPA Executive and friend Bert Wilkinson recalled that Mr. Fenty was Chief Information Officer at the close of the 1970s into the early 80s.
Mr. Fenty helped to produce a number of publications dealing with the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy as well as others pertaining to other national events, Wilkinson said. He also had published several booklets with Guyanese and West Indian proverbs. Additionally, Mr. Fenty played an active role in various editions of CARIFESTA over the decades.
Up to the time of his death, Mr. Fenty was actively involved in the production of the publication, ‘The Guyana Annual’ and hosted his television show, ‘The Cook Up Show’ on local television.
He would be remembered for ‘Frankly Speaking’ his mind on a number of issues published in his weekly Stabroek News column, being an inspiration to young broadcasters, many of whom he advised, and for his love of open and spirited conversations and laughter.
