Dear Editor,
The thing about bullying, if it is not addressed it gets worse. All of my life, I am certain I have never possessed a violent streak in me. I am hesitant to express certain things here because it is the truth and people read and take it personally. The examples I give to drive home a political point are not meant to disrespect people I have known or have associated with in my life’s sojourn.
The PPP/C is blatantly bullying people of African descent in Guyana and if we do not take a stand, it will not stop, it will get worse. I was a diminutive child that possessed not even an iota of mischievousness in me. In fact, I wanted nothing to do with fighting. I got afraid and ran away when fights broke out. The boy that constantly bullied me was well built and had a nasty temperament.
There was no time and place for the bullying, it happened anywhere and at any time even in front of girls. There is something about the male species that cause them to become feral if they are insulted, embarrassed, assaulted or challenged in the presence of the feminine gender. It was in such a setting that he pointed his fore finger in my face and used the same protruding finger on my forehead causing my head to arch backwards.
I walked off and picked up a solid piece of wood and funnily he laughed probably thinking I was bluffing. I swung with all the energy I had and he dropped to his knees. I wanted to run away so badly but the girls were watching so I widened my eyes in a fierce manner, wrenched up my face and raise the wood again. He ran away. The bully stopped like it had never started or happened.
When I looked at what is happening to African Guyanese under the PPP/C; the extrajudicial killings, the mistreatment and disrespect of our constituents, the economic genocide and the new phenomenon of viscous attacks on our women as seen in Mocha recently, rage course through my being. The bulldozing of homes and the burning of residents personal belongings and livestock as happened in Mocha must not be allowed to pass without justice.
When I saw our women wailing and taking a courageous stand in the face of police with guns, the rage coursed through me. When I saw them thrown into the mud with handcuffs on but still remained defiant, the rage coursed through me. The Leader of the Opposition will not reach for that proverbial piece of wood and will remain a diminutive figure in the face of the suffering masses. He will continue running and hiding from the bullying and it will continue and get worst. He must go!
Sincerely yours,
Norman Browne
