Kaieteur News – First of two practice matches between Tagenarine Chanderpaul XI and Veersammy Permaul XI at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence concluded yesterday with a nine wicket victory for Chanderpaul’s side.
Day 3, at the start of play was blessed with fair but slightly overcast weather. Tagenarine Chanderpaul XI resumed play at 378-6. Chanderpaul XI were all out before the end of the first session, adding 51 runs onto their overnight score, finishing 429-10 and a lead of 168 runs. Ronsford Beaton picked up 4 wickets for 84 runs off of 24 overs.
Permaul XI returned to bat trailing by 169 runs. Matthew Nandu and Rampertab Ramnauth opened the batting for Permaul’s XI in the second innings.
The left-handed West Indies U19 batter: Nandu looked ‘in excellent nick’ after scoring a much calculated half century in the first innings. He managed to carry through to the end of the first session. Despite losing Rampertab for 7 runs and Imlach for 5 runs before the break.
At lunch Veersammy Permaul XI were 26-2, Nandu on 13 runs and Kelvon Anderson on 5 runs with Shamar Joseph picking up both of the two wickets in the first session.
Gudakesh Motie was introduced to the attack in the 27th over of day, he later picked up the wicket of Nandu, trying to turn a delivery onto the leg-side, only to find the leading edge of his bat to present a simple return catch. Nandu hit three 4’s in his score of 24 runs.
After a few tidy overs from Kevin Sinclair to Akasahya Persaud, Sinclair eventually got his man, when Persaud offered no shot to a turning delivery; trapping him in front his stumps to be out LBW for 15 runs.
With the score 84-4, Shamar Yearwood joined Kevlon Anderson at the crease at the 44th over. The right-handed Anderson played well for his 40 runs, scoring most of his runs through the off-side before he was run out by Chanderpaul trying to sneak through for a single.
Veersammy Permaul XI found themselves’ in more trouble when Garfield Benjamin was bowled by a beautiful off break from Rampersaud in the 51st over of the day.
Permaul XI at tea were 131-6, trailing by 37 runs. Yearwood was also run out for 20 runs. Ashmead Nedd came to the crease with the score at 135-7. Ronaldo Ali-Mohamed was out caught at mid-on. The score is now 144-8, J. Sinclair together with Nedd looked to put some runs on the board: J. Sinclair hitting three nice 4’s in his knock of 18 before he was bowled by Adams, while Nedd made 22 hitting one 4 and three massive 6’s. With the score 177-9; the last wicket pair only added 9 runs together before J. Sinclair was bowled by Adams.
Permaul XI were dismissed for 186 leaving Tagenarine Chanderpaul XI to get a paltry 21 runs to win from 19 overs.
Second innings pursuit, Tagenarine Chanderpaul and Chanderpaul Hemraj only put 6 runs on the board before Hemraj edged one through to Imlach without scoring, Nail Smith striking in his first over.
Kemol Savory then came to the crease, getting the job done in 1.4 overs. Savory made 14 runs from 6 balls in the second innings. Chanderpaul XI won by 9 wickets in the final session of Day 3.
The second practice match will be announced at a later date.
