Dear Editor,
Please refer to your issue of January 11, 2023 and the article on the crumbling of the Burma road.
I noted that the contractor was instructed to remedy the defect. However, no mention was made about the designer’s evaluation of the situation leading to the instruction to correct the defect.
From a brief preliminary assessment, based upon the photograph alone, it may be that the design may have led to the defect. If that is the case, then it is likely that the defect will re-occur. A thorough scientific assessment should be performed.
