Kaieteur News – There is a popular saying, “A mother is a daughter’s best friend.” For Amanda Ahamad and her daughter Aaliyah, it is certainly a combination that defines that popular quote. Amanda, a mother of three from Belvedere, Corentyne, Berbice is a well known business woman and proprietor of Triple A’s Bakery & Catering. The sweet and savory treat business which started in 2015, has grown since it was conceptualized, and has created an avenue for Amanda to bond with her teenage daughter.
This mother and daughter dynamic has done magical things in the kitchen when it comes to creating scumptuous bites, whether it is sweet donuts or zesty pizzas; the two enjoy every moment of it.
The name itself, “Triple A’s Bakery and Catering,” Amanda said was created from the names of her children, Aaliyah, Afridi and Arshad. She said when the business started in 2015, she did cakes for holidays or special occasions, however, as her daughter grew older, she began assisting her in the kitchen when orders were received. Fast forward to 2022, the business has since taken off to greater heights. A variety of delicious treats were added to the menu and her daughter Aaliyah added creativeness to the products, making them more attractive to the eye and tasty.
Amanda relayed that baking and cooking are passions of hers and that business runs in the family. She is originally from Anna Catherina, East Coast Demerara, but got married and moved to Berbice years ago. As the years passed and all her children began attending school, and her husband went off to his job, she was at home alone and was bored, so she decided to start baking.
“I was bored and my daughter came up with the donuts idea, she told me to start with it and don’t fatigue myself too much, those were her exact words…”
Amanda said that when they started with the donuts it was a huge hit and her daughter helped her come up with creative ideas for the toppings that customers loved. But they wanted more and so she decided to create milkshakes, made from scratch. She explained that she was using ice-cream to do it but there was an issue with the supplier and she resorted to using her own ingredients that she could access nearby, that was the best decision, she said because the reviews were great!
From this point, Amanda and her daughter began adding other items to the menu to be sold, “we take orders everyday and people order different things everyday.”
Her daughter Aaliyah also took a moment to speak with me and noted that she is grateful for the opportunity to spend time with her mom and strengthen their bond while cooking some of their favorite things to sell customers.
“My mom supports me alot and one day I am going to be a doctor and although I help out alot with the business, she ensures that I know I can be anything I want to be…”
She noted that she loves the opportunity to spend time with her mom and that she has become her bestfriend when it comes to talking about things.
Meanwhile, Amanda says she plans on expanding even further in the future. Currently, persons can place orders and have their items delivered or picked up, but she plans to open her own bakershop this year.
“I do plan on expanding but we need a fixed location…maybe if we get a land located along the public road we can do something but by this year end we should open something infront of me here at Belvedere…” she said.
Triple A’s Bakery offers delightful treats such as milkshakes, boba tea, glazed doughnuts, pizzas, cakes, cupcakes, cheesecakes, cookies, brownies, deviled eggs, fried rice, cranberry rice, spagetti, bbq chicken and much more. They also do catering for parties, weddings and special occasions. Her customers base extends all the way to the diaspora. Customers would usually order items for persons they want to surprise on a special occasion.

Her advice to upcoming business owners is to not look at her as competition, but rather do everything to the of their ability.
“If you ever need advice or tips, do feel free call or text me. Whatever little business you’re into, I wanna say that I’m proud of you.”
