Kaieteur News – Detectives have been forced to release two men they had detained for questioning in relation to the murder of Ramdia Balkaran, a 78-year-old woman known as “Sister Jean”, at Paramakatai Village, Region Eight.
The body of Sister Jean, a Wesleyan Church Missionary in the village for over 50 years was on Thursday last found bound, gagged, and battered in her bedroom. Police had arrested the men and questioned them about the murder but they could not get any information linking them or other individuals to the heinous killing of the veteran missionary.
It is believed that she was beaten and murdered during a robbery. A post mortem examination conducted on Friday revealed that ‘Sister Jean’ died from suffocation and blunt trauma. So far detectives learnt that the elderly woman was last seen alive around 19:30 hours on Wednesday (the day before she was found dead) after she and her husband closed up their shop for home.
Upon their arrival, Sister Jean entered their house while husband headed to another building located in the same yard to meditate and pray. Kaieteur News understands that he spent the entire evening there and went over to their house early the following morning only to find his wife dead. This newspaper learnt that Sister Jean’s battered body was discovered around 06:00hrs in her bedroom.
