Beside the delicious cuisines and great holiday music, it isn’t Christmas without me watching my holiday movies. I mean who doesn’t like to watch a heartwarming, comedy-drama film while munching on a slice of fruit cake and sipping on a cold glass of sorrel drink on Christmas day.
Well whatever you decide to munch on or sip on today, here are eight must-see movies you can watch with your love ones this Christmas.
The Christmas Chronicles
The Christmas Chronicles is a 2018 American Christmas comedy film directed by Clay Kaytis with screenplay by Matt Lieberman. The film stars Kurt Russell, Judah Lewis, Darby Camp, Lamorne Morris, Kimberly Williams-Paisley, and Oliver Hudson. It is the first movie in ‘The Christmas Chronicles’ film series. The film was produced by 1492 Pictures and Wonder Worldwide and was released on November 22, 2018, on Netflix.
The plot follows two children, Kate and Teddy, who notice Santa Claus in their home and jump into his sleigh with his reindeer; however, they accidentally cause the sleigh to crash, and the presents are lost. As Christmas morning approaches, it is up to the children and Santa to save Christmas by correctly delivering all of the presents.
The Christmas Chronicles received mixed reviews from critics. A sequel, titled The Christmas Chronicles 2, was released on November 25, 2020.
Almost Christmas
Almost Christmas is American Christmas comedy-drama movie from writer/director David E. Talbert (Baggage Claim) and producer Will Packer (Ride Along, Think Like a Man series, This Christmas). Almost Christmas tells the festive story of a beloved patriarch who asks his family for one gift this holiday season: to get along. If they can honor that wish and spend five days under the same roof without killing one another, it will be a Christmas miracle.
The all-star cast of this 2016 film is led by Kimberly Elise, Danny Glover, John Michael Higgins, Romany Malco, Mo’Nique, JB Smoove, Gabrielle Union, Omar Epps, Nicole Ari Parker, Jessie T. Usher and DC Young Fly.
Ernest saves Christmas
Ernest P. Worell, a sweet but silly taxi driver who at times suffers delusions of grandeur, has just chauffeured a rather extraordinary fare: “His Great Red Oneness, the Claus” himself. It seems Santa hasn’t got the magic for another Christmas season, and has come to Orlando, Florida for Joe Carruthers, the man he has chosen as his successor. But things quickly begin to unravel, thanks to Joe’s meddling agent and Santa’s increasingly unreliable memory. Incredibly, dimwitted Ernest soon becomes Santa’s only hope, joining forces with a young runaway named “Harmony Star”, Ernest rushes to save the holidays.
Ernest Saves Christmas is a 1988 American Christmas comedy film directed by John Cherry and starring Jim Varney. This is the third film to feature Varney’s character Ernest P. Worrell, and chronicles Ernest’s attempt to help find a replacement for an aging Santa Claus.
The Perfect Holiday
The Perfect Holiday is a 2007 comedy film directed by Lance Rivera, starring Gabrielle Union, Morris Chestnut, Charlie Murphy, and Terrence Howard, and is produced by Academy Award-nominated actress Queen Latifah, who also serves as narrator. The film was released on December 12, 2007.
Nancy (Gabrielle Union), a divorced mother of three, feels especially lonely during the holidays. Sensing her sadness, Nancy’s youngest daughter, Emily (Khail Bryant), has a plan to make her mom happy again. She asks Benjamin (Morris Chestnut), a department-store Santa Claus, to pay Nancy a compliment. And Benjamin, who is also a struggling songwriter, knows exactly the right words to say. He does his best to make her dreams come true.
This Christmas
This Christmas is a 2007 American Christmas comedy film produced by Rainforest Films and distributed by Screen Gems. Written, produced, and directed by Preston A. Whitmore II, it is a Christmas-time story that centers on the Whitfield family, whose eldest has come home for the first time in four years. The film is named after the 1970 Donny Hathaway song of the same name, which Chris Brown covers in the film. The Whitfield family overcomes many trials and obstacles during the Christmas season.
Six siblings return to their mother’s home in Los Angeles for the Christmas holiday for the first time in four years. Each of the siblings has a secret. Lisa’s (Regina King) husband (Laz Alonso) is cheating on her. Claude (Columbus Short) is AWOL from the Marines and has secretly married a white woman. Kelli (Sharon Leal) is single and lonely. Baby (Chris Brown) wants to follow a music career, but knows it will break his mother’s heart. Quentin (Idris Elba) is a traveling musician who is haunted by the memory of his absent musician father and disapproves of his mother’s new relationship with the church pastor. Over the few days before Christmas, the siblings will learn once again what it means to be a family and the spirit of Christmas.
All I Want for Christmas
In New York City, siblings Ethan (Ethan Randall) and Hallie O’Fallon (Thora Birch) launch a scheme to get what they most want for Christmas. The scheme involves their parents, Catherine (Harley Jane Kozak) and Michael (Jamey Sheridan), and grandmother, Lillian (Lauren Bacall). When Hallie meets Santa Claus (Leslie Nielsen), she asks for an unusual gift: her divorced parents back together again.
As the children embark on their adventure, and while planning ahead, Tony Boer (Kevin Nealon) takes an interest in Catherine. Ethan gets pre-occupied with not only his parents’ romantic dilemma, but also his own, one brought about by his new friendship with Stephanie (Amy Oberer). An elaborate scheme evolves with mice, telephone calls, and an ice cream truck, as Ethan and Hallie try to achieve their goal with help from Stephanie, and see Tony as their primary obstacle. They succeed with a little Christmas magic from Santa Claus. Catherine decides to reject Tony and remarry Michael, completing Hallie’s wish.
All I Want for Christmas is a 1991 American romantic comedy Christmas film
directed by Robert Lieberman, and starring Harley Jane Kozak, Lauren Bacall, Thora Birch, Ethan Randall, and Leslie Nielsen.
Deck the halls
Steve Finch (Matthew Broderick) is the “King of Christmas” in Cloverdale, Massachusetts. He meticulously plans out each year’s holiday festivities, much to the chagrin of his family who have grown tired of the constant holiday events. When a new family moves into the neighborhood and begins to set up an intricate lighting display around their house, Steve begins to feel his title as “King” slipping and begins to take steps to retain his crown. Soon, the neighborhood is turned upside-down as the families try to discover the true meaning of Christmas.
Deck the Halls is a 2006 American Christmas comedy film directed by John Whitesell, written by Matt Corman, Chris Ord, and Don Rhymer, and starring Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick, Kristin Davis, and Kristin Chenoweth. The film was released on November 22, 2006.
Christmas with the Kranks
Christmas with the Kranks is a 2004 American Christmas comedy film based on the 2001 novel Skipping Christmas by John Grisham.
It was directed by Joe Roth, written and produced by Chris Columbus, and starring Tim Allen, Jamie Lee Curtis, Dan Aykroyd, Erik Per Sullivan, Cheech Marin, Jake Busey, and M. Emmet Walsh. The film tells of a couple who decide to skip Christmas one year since their daughter is away, much to the chagrin of their neighbors until their daughter decides to come home at the last minute with her serious boyfriend.
Panicked, they rush to prepare a special Christmas for their daughter. The neighbors and local police pitch in at the last minute to help save the day as the stores are out of the necessities Nora (Jamie Lee Curtis) needs to pull off a Krank Christmas. Luther (Tim Allen) donates their dream trip to their neighbor Bev (Elizabeth Franz) and her husband. Bev is dealing with cancer and the trip is a welcomed gift.
