Kaieteur News – “I think young E ntrepreneurs are the pioneers of bringing new technologies and systems that ultimately bring changes to society. These changes are associated with improved lifestyle, generous thinking, better morale, and higher economic choice. In this way, social changes gradually impact national and global changes.”

As we are in the holiday season and the New Year is just right around the corner, it is never too late to get that special someone that perfect gift. The place to shop at is ‘Sparkles of Creativity’.
‘Sparkles of Creativity’ is another of the many businesses that were birthed during the midst of the global COVID-19 pandemic, back in January 2021. The business which has been making a name for itself in the local industry is owned by 21-year-old, Kristen Carey Caesar. Caesar is a recent graduate from the University of Guyana who studied Applied and Exploration Geology. The young woman, who likes cooking, volunteering and traveling, is someone who is always open to new positive experiences.
When asked how ‘Sparkles of Creativity’ all came about, Caesar said she started this venture while there was free time on her hand during the pandemic while she attended classes virtually while being home.
“I was bored most of the time and being stuck at home was a blessing in disguise. I wanted to occupy myself by doing something constructive and make a few extra dollars at the same time,” she recalled. Caesar added “I went on Google to research business ideas, and I came across a website that allowed you to fill in details such as your hobbies/interests, your startup amount, your potential market, how much free time you have etc. A few suggestions came up, and that’s how I was inspired to do gift packages.”
It is no doubt this venture has been something positive because now the young woman receives tremendous support and lots of positive feedback for her business. “Honestly, I couldn’t ask for a better support base to be honest. I must give special thanks to my parents, my brothers, my friends and my boyfriend for always coming through with any favour I ask, no matter how big or small,” she expressed.
Other than the overwhelming support, Caesar mentioned that her operations too faced a few challenges along the way. She highlighted that completing bulk orders on time and trying to balance her studies, her household duties, her social life and the business all at once, were just some she experienced. But having learnt that time management, being organized, disciplined, having great interpersonal skills and commitment are core values that can help to overcome some of the challenges. Caesar said that it was those key elements that she applied which helped her to get pass the obstacles. “I think everyone should try to develop and master these traits and never be afraid to ask for help if you’re under pressure,” she advised.
The young Entrepreneur when asked what next is in store for ‘Sparkles of Creativity’, said that she would like serve the international market. “My vision is to create a website where customers can choose from a variety of gift items and details such as the colour theme, any special message they may wish to go with, any specific type of packaging they may require, and then have it shipped to their doorstep by just the click of a finger,” she shared.
Our featured young Entrepreneur this week, is of the conviction that small business owners are innovators that would bring change to our society. “I think young Entrepreneurs are the pioneers of bringing new technologies and systems that ultimately bring changes to society. These changes are associated with improved lifestyle, generous thinking, better morale, and higher economic choice. In this way, social changes gradually impact national and global changes,” she said.
Caesar also mentioned that the Government has been playing its part in assisting small businesses, but noted that there is always room for improvement. “I was a part of the ‘We Lift Exhibition’ this year and it was such an amazing experience to discover so many different small businesses all owned by women. I think what we all need though is some sort of training platform where we are exposed to professional knowledge on things like financial management, marketing tactics, people management and business strategies,” she added.
