Police reviewing 2017 murder of Kescia Branche…
By Shervin Belgrave
Kaieteur News – Kescia Branche, was a Secondary School Teacher, just 22-years-old and full of life when her life was snuffed out by a mystery killer in November 2017.
A man was captured and placed behind bars on remand for her murder, but was recently freed after the evidence presented in court against him was not sufficient to tie him to the crime. He has since petitioned the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to re-open the investigation because he too wants justice for the slain Teacher.
In an invited comment from Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum, it was revealed that the force too wants to find Branche’s mystery killer. Blanhum said that her case is currently being reviewed by Investigators.
The Police are currently retracing leads to see if they might have missed anything critical in finding Branche’s killer and closing the case.
Branche was found battered and unconscious lying on Louisa Row, Georgetown on the morning of November 5, 2017. She never regained consciousness and died from brain hemorrhage a few days later. An autopsy showed that her mystery killer had struck a fatal blow to her head.
Police had captured a taxi driver, Mathew Monroe, believing that he may have been the mystery killer.
Investigators had reported that they were able to link him to a car that Branche was reportedly last seen in leaving from a location on Mandela Avenue on the night before she was murdered.
Monroe however, was able to prove that he was not the mystery driver of the car on the night Branche never made it home, and has since sued the state for millions of dollars.
If ranks are truthful and indeed were able to link him to the car, then there is a possibility that they can still track down the mystery driver.
It could be possible that if Monroe was familiar with the car he may be able to provide information to the police about other drivers who might have been using the vehicle around the time Branche was murdered.
Police can even re-interview family members to see if the car was one frequently used by Branche and if she might have been acquainted with any other taxi drivers besides Monroe.
As Investigators continue their search for the missing driver, a previous investigation conducted by Police, had revealed that on the night of November 4, 2017, Branche was seen leaving the Blue Martini Night Club in company of two Police Constables.
The Lawmen were interviewed and reportedly told the Detectives that they went to a barbeque spot on Mandela Avenue with Branche. However, they said she left the location by herself in a taxi to go home.
Branche never made it to her destination and Police claimed that they were able to identify Monroe’s car as the taxi she used. Investigators were in search of Monroe but he was out of the country and they concluded that he fled the country. Upon his return, he was arrested.
During the trial, Monroe’s Lawyers argued that during the time Branche was found unconscious, their client was already out of the country. Monroe said he had traveled to celebrate his daughter’s birthday.
Who really killed Kescia Branche? Let’s hope this unsolved mystery is solved soon.
