Dec 22, 2022 Letters
Dear Editor,
Kindly allow me to respond to Dr. David Hinds’ letter in the KN of 12-19-2022 titled, “WPA stands with vendors for balance between order and survival.”
Trust the ghostlike WPA to condemn the Government for its policy of removing vendors from the vicinity of the Georgetown Public Hospital. The WPA does not exist except in letters to the editor. Why their hubbub?
Dr. David Hinds admits in his letter that it’s a choice between order and chaos. What does he expect? The government was elected to preserve law and order. Dr. Hinds’ entire symbiosis with the vendors with their unsightly shacks, blocking the entranceway of ambulances to enter the Georgetown Public Hospital is because the vendors are mostly Africans. No care or sympathy is expressed for the sick who are seeking medical help. Famous for playing the race card, Dr. Hinds does not disappoint again.
Where was the WPA when the WPA’s Dr. Clive Thomas who was CEO of GuySuCo presided over the APNU/AFC government firing of some 7000 Indian sugar workers and left them destitute?
Dr. Hind’s race bias is very glaring.
He writes, “Where is the respect for the right of citizens to fend for their families? It is unconscionable for a Government to forcefully block poor people from making a living in these difficult times”. Surely poor people come in all colours, sizes and races. Yet the WPA expressed no solidarity, concern or sympathy for those 7000 sugar workers to earn a living. Also, the PPP/C government had hired some 2000 Amerindian workers prior to the APNU/AFC coalition taking power in 2015. The Coalition fired all of them! Where was the WPA or Dr. Hinds who ostensibly speaks for poor people?
The WPA Dr. Hinds writes, “The Government’s resort to what it perceives as its right to ensure order in Georgetown is yet another reminder of our swift descent to a Police State. To add insult to injury, this action by the Government is in clear violation of the separation of powers between Central Government and Local Government. Where is the respect for the rule of law?”
Dr. Hinds should be reminded that the City Council constantly seeks the central government’s subvention to run the city and repair and rebuild Georgetown city streets. There are no protests from the likes of Dr. Hinds. Why? Isn’t this central government action a violation of the rule of law?
Sincerely,
Sultan Mohamed
