– Region 10 & 5 play to an entertaining draw
Kaieteur News – The One Guyana President’s Cup continued on Wednesday evening, with Region 4 (Demerara/Mahaica) picking up three points, while the spoils were shared between Region 10 (Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice) and 5 (Mahaica/Berbice) at the National Track and Field Centre.
Backed by ENet, the Region 10 side came to the West Demerara facility with a band of supporters, all decked out in orange t-shirts, branded by the country’s ‘Everything Network’.
The match offered much for a crowd that came out early, with the game ending in a 3-3 stalemate.
Ntini Bobb scored an own goal, while Donavon Francis rocked the net twice for Region 10. Delroy Fraser, Olvis Mitchell and Abunchi Benjamin were the goal scorers for Region 5.
Meanwhile, scores turned up at the lone track and field facility to witness the star-studded Region 4 team in action, but at the end of 90 minutes, plus stoppage time, everyone left with mixed emotions.
Region 4 defeated Region 7 (Cuyuni/Mazaruni) 6-1 in a drab encounter that ended in the first half.
Loaded with the majority of players that make up Guyana’s senior Men’s National football team – the Golden Jaguars – Region 4 outplayed Region 7 throughout the contest, with all of the goals coming in the first half.
Omari Glasgow and Ryan Hackett netted a double, while Colin Nelson and Kelsey Benjamin accounted for the other two goals. Mathew Simmons was the player that found the next for men from the Cuyuni/Mazaruni region.
The One Guyana President’s Cup will continue today at the same venue, with Region 3 (Essequibo Islands/West Demerara) hunting another victory, this time against Region 2 (Pomeroon/Supenaam) from 8:30 pm.
Region 9 (Upper Takutu/Upper Essequibo), who also picked up a win in their first match of the tournament, will play another team making their debut, Region 8 (Potaro/Siparuni), from 6:00 pm. (Rawle Toney)
