Kaieteur News – I taught Adam Lynch at UG but knew him before then because his father was a long-standing customer of my mother-in-law’s supermarket. Mr. Lynch patronized the supermarket over decades.
The older Lynch was a lovely human. He worked at the telephone company which was state-owned at the time and which was situated in Wortmanville, one block from the supermarket.
I have hidden away one memory I have of Adam. A group of us was waiting outside the church at Rosignol for the wedding ceremony of Leonard Craig, then in the AFC’s leadership, to begin. Adam went and bought a round of beers. He knew I didn’t drink so he bought a Banks DIH Shandy for me.
I told Adam the Shandy has alcohol. Adam came in front of my face, talking loudly, and asked if I ever drank cough syrup. I said yes and I have cough syrup at home. Then laughing in front of all of us, he exclaimed; “Freddie, cough syrup has more alcohol than this Shandy.”
I don’t know if that is true. Can someone tell me if that is true. Adam, well embedded in his successful business venture with his other siblings, committed suicide last Sunday but not before he divulged sensitive information to me and Leonard Craig days before he died.
Here now is what happened. The three of us were liming when Adam accosted Leonard. He said: “You see how things change when administration changes.” He told Craig that Craig was strategically placed to secure a gun license for him because Craig was the personal aide to Minister Khemraj Ramjattan.
Adam told Craig that he eventually got through because of the help of a very powerfully placed friend. Adam told us who the person was. He mentioned that on Friday (that is, December 2) he was going to the Commissioner’s office to collect his permit. He showed us his letter of approval.
Adam was arrested at the Commissioner’s office, held in detention for two days and committed “suicide” two hours after his release on bail. No one knows what happened. But the police’s explanation was that the approval letter was not signed by the Commissioner and was fake. All we have to go on is the name Adam gave me and Craig.
I announced Adam’s demise on the Gildarie-Freddie Kissoon Show last Wednesday. After I did that, Gildarie said he got a call from Canada asking him to research Adam’s death because he may have been murdered. Maybe that person knows something that we in Guyana don’t.
For security reasons, I did not keep the name that Adam gave me to myself only. I told Gildarie who he is. I told my cousin William Cox who has an important job. So four persons know the man’s identity and Adam’s family members too.
Here is a strange dimension to the event. I spoke with a very, very senior officer of the Police Force about Adam’s arrest and subsequent suicide and told him who the person was that facilitated Adam.
I told this highly important officer I am willing to give him the name. That was on Thursday. I am still to hear from the officer. Why the police do not want to know who this personality is? Of course of I may be wrong and they do want to know. But why haven’t I been contacted as yet?
Why did the person from Canada suggest that it was murder and not suicide? What is it that person knows? What do Leonard Craig and I know? The answer is nothing except a name. At the funeral service yesterday, one of the close family members told me before Adam died he revealed that his life was threatened under interrogation based on what he, Adam revealed.
Adam’s facilitator is a person with serious reach in Georgetown. Why would Adam identify that person to me and Craig if he, Adam had no dealings with him? This just does not make sense. If John Jones was Adam’s contact why would he cite another name? And when you know who that person is then many pieces will begin to fit.
What happened to Adam in that station for two days that caused him to lose his mental balance and kill himself? I believe the line between sanity and insanity is a court of varnish. Mental fragility in humans is very real
I can speak for myself. If I see right before my eyes something happening to my wife, daughter and pets, I would lose my mind. I know me. I know I would. Somebody let down Adam, the police did not help, and a wonderful asset to Guyana is dead.
