Dear Editor,
‘Physician heal thyself’ (Luke 4:23) should serve as a guideline for Dr. Ramsammy in his vitriolic blasting of the AFC. In one of his articles, he stated that the AFC leader Mr. Ramjattan will have to go on his knees and beg the holder of the Parliamentary list for the APNU/AFC, David Granger not to recall the AFC MPs should the AFC leaves the Coalition. Well, as the old adage goes; those who live in glass houses should not throw stones.
He had opposed the PPP Marxist-Leninist ideology in the 1970s and 1980s but has somersaulted into the same Marxist-Leninist PPP regime in 1992 even before the ink had dried on the ballots and the votes were tabulated. Not only has he morphed into the PPP communist ideology, but he has become the party’s chief defender and was the first in line to defend SU-GATE. SU GATE derived its name from a naturalized Chinese businessman SuZhi Rong who in an interview with Vice News Reporter, Isobel Yeung, admitted that he acted as a middleman and took bribes from prospective Investors for a senior member in the Government in return for access to and contracts from that Minister.
This former Minister’s lack of talents and knowledge ranges far and wide. His sojourn as the Minister of Health was pitiful as the nation’s hospitals were atrociously ill-equipped under his tenure and with a proliferation of the poorest health care system in the Caribbean. As the Minister of Health, he presided over a huge increase in maternity and infants’ deaths at the public hospitals. As one Calypsonian puts it “if you go the public hospitals with a gum boil, you are certain to go six feet into the soil.” This self-righteous and snooty Doctor, who has never even performed any surgery, was part and parcel of the sole sourcing of drugs worth billions of dollars to a good friend of a senior member of Government. And while he did not criticize the PPP Government for such corrupt act, yet he castigated the Coalition Government for doing the same. Many media outlets have stated that the Specialty Hospital had precipitated massive corrupt practices in the millions of dollars by the Contractor, Surendra. How deceptive, hypocritical and phony that this very Minister of Health had bragged that the public hospitals are well equipped to treat the illness of the public, but when he fell ill, he sought medical treatment in the United States.
Let it be known that the Leaders of the AFC do not need me to speak on their behalf or defend them against the mischievous, silly and spurious comments from the Doctor because the AFC has an array of bright Leaders and brilliant Lawyers. However, this would be the right time for this Minister to shed light as to why he authorized the importation and usage of spy equipment. His portfolio as Agriculture Minister saw a major decline in fish, rice and poultry exports to North America as many export requirements were not met. Now this wannabe former Minister is serving as Advisor to the current Minister of Health. No wonder why so many malpractices and deaths are occurring daily at the public hospitals.
Finally, the question as to whether the AFC MP’s will retain their Parliamentary status should not be of any concern to this jaded Doctor. But, lo and behold, he has not only been a disaster as the Leader of the URP, but his failure as both the Minister of Health and the Minister of Agriculture has cost the taxpayers billions of dollars.
Yours faithfully,
Leyland Chitlall Roopnaraine
