Dear Editor,
I read in my favourite column about a dusk to dawn party at the Movie Towne parking lot. It was stated that a permit was given by a Magistrate. I did not know that the police are no longer the ones that issue permits for such events. I served in the Guyana Police Force and during my tenure, an application was made to the district police for any event like the one in question. It was up to the district subordinate officer who makes recommendations and forward the application to the divisional commander for final approval. It is news of me to hear that a Magistrate had issued a permit for such an event.
The divisional police department needs to answer as to why no police showed up when complaints were made about the after-hours noise. The only reason I could think of is that certain high officials were involved, and the police were told to ignore any complaints coming for that location.
Regards,
Kenneth Singh
