Kaieteur News – Residents of Houston, East Bank Demerara (EBD) are calling on the relevant authorities to assist in the removal of two containers from the Houston Public Road.
Kaieteur News understands that often time containers are placed on the public road by a businessman for days and obstructs the vision of drivers and affects the smooth flow of traffic.
‘This is lawlessness on the road man, them thing could cause accident man; vehicle could crash into them thing at night,’ said one of the residents who requested anonymity. The resident is fearful that serious accidents will occur if no action is taken.
The resident told Kaieteur News that the containers belong to a businessman who owns a hardware store alongside the Houston Public Road. The resident said the businessman can offload his containers in a timely fashion and have them removed in the interest of public safety.
However, it is alleged that instead of removing the items from the containers and storing them at his place of business, the businessman sells the items from the containers.
“Sometime the containers would stay there for 15 days and when them empty, he replaces them with another two,” said another resident living next door to the businessman.
Kaieteur News understands that residents have pleaded with the businessman to remove the containers in a timely fashion but their concerns fell on deaf ears.
‘It’s a road disaster waiting to happen,’ one resident opined while urging the authorities to act quickly before an accident occurs.
