Kaieteur News – The A New and United Guyana Political Party (ANUG) on Saturday elected a new executive body following its third Annual National Conference of Members.
The meeting was held at the Georgetown Club, Camp Street, Georgetown. In a Press Release, ANUG said on the agenda was a report on the activities of the party for the preceding year and a financial report with full audited statements for the years 2019-2021.
This was delivered by outgoing Chairman, Mr. Timothy Jonas, SC. Next on the agenda was the Election for New Office bearers of the Executive Committee for the year 2022-2023. The Returning Officer was Mr. Harryram Parmesar of Parmesar and Co. Accounting Firm. Following the elections, Dr. Mark France was appointed Chairman.
The General Secretary post went to Jonas. Assistant General Secretary went to Mr. Stephen Patterson, the post of Finance Secretary (Treasurer) went to Mr. Raan Motilall while the post Organizing Secretary saw Mr. Kian Jabour being appointed.
The Committee Members are: Mr. Javeed Ally, Mr. Joel Ramesh, Mr. Kurt Anderson, Ms. Mary Ann Correia, Dr. Alex D’Aguiar, Ms. Althia King, Ms. Nadia Sagar, Mr. Mohamed Eesau Shaheed, Ms. Laura Singh and Mr. Niall Stanton.
Dr. France expressed thanks to the outgoing Executive Committee for a job well done and is looking forward for continued support from all members including the outgoing members. The New Executive was then tasked with taking ANUG to the next level. This involves interacting with all stakeholders in Guyana to listen to the issues affecting all of Guyana, the Press Release stated.
Dr. France then issued a call on the Government and the Main Opposition to put aside their differences and ensure that the current imbroglio involving the non-appointment of the Chancellor of the Judiciary and the Chief Justice is addressed forthwith. Dr. France also called on the media to remind them of the importance of their role in society and what is expected of them.
ANUG has planned to work closely with the media to ensure that all Guyanese are fairly represented. Finally, Dr. France made a clarion call for all political parties and GECOM to ensure that the constitution is obeyed. Campaign Financing remains a huge issue, with many of the political parties still to submit a review of their Campaign Expenses for the General and Regional Elections of March 2020.
The new Chair further highlighted other areas of concern which ANUG will be addressing in the ensuing term and asked for the participation of all members and all Guyanese. He then thanked all for their support and ended the session with a shout out to all men in celebration of International Men’s Day 2022.
