Dear Editor,
More than eighteen months have passed and the police have not charged anyone for the murder of Ricardo Fagundes outside the Palm Court night club in March 2021. Along with the street cameras, there are many other private cameras in the surrounding area. However, many in the public believe that there is more to the murder of Fagundes than is presently known. The question the public is asking, is there a cover up by the Police or its just sloppy work by the Police. The face book postings by Police Sergeant seems to have allegedly implicated two senior Police Officers and a prominent businessman. But based on media reports, despite Bascom’s allegations, there has not been a serious investigation by the Police, which seems to suggest that something is not right.
We in the public domain should not let these allegations disappear or be ignored because they are serious and more so, a life has been lost and no one is being held accountable. It must be told that members of the Police Force have taken an oath to serve and protect the public. They are supposed to execute their duties fairly and judiciously. I am not quite sure what evidence Bascom has on the murder of Fagundes, but it seems that he has attempted to smear Shell Mohamedby alleging that somehow, he or his son or one of his security personnel was involved in the murder Ricardo Fagundes aka “Paper Shorts.” But where is the evidence?
Further, Bascom has allegedly accused two senior Police Officers of taking bribe in the amount of GUY $30 million from a Businessman to cover-up the murder. These are serious allegations that should not be taken lightly by the top brass in the police. But apparently the Police Force is claiming that Sergeant Bascom has not produced any evidence to substantiate his claims. His allegations against the two senior Police Officers were made a year after the murder and only after he was caught in a sting operation involving illegal drugs. However, the recent investigation into the murder of Fagundes by the Caribbean based Regional Security System (RSS) has found no evidence against the businessman or corrupt practices by two police officers or any attempt by the police to cover-up the murder. But the truth is neither Bascom’s Lawyer nor the public knows the full extent of the RSS report because the entire report was not made public.
Shell’ Mohamed who is approaching 70 years is a very a righteous, generous, courteous and God-fearing businessman who has over the years provided financial assistance to thousands of people, especially the downtrodden and children throughout the country. Mr. Mohamed has also provided assistance to many non-profit organizations. In addition, he has sponsored many sporting events in the country including motor car and horse racing among others under the name ‘Team Mohamed’. Highly respected and well known in the private sector and within Government circles, Mr. Nazar Mohamed is one of Guyana’s most renowned philanthropists with hundreds of thousands of followers on social media. He is a steadfast supporter of President Ali’s ‘One Guyana’ initiative. He is a devoted Muslim who believes in the Quran and who has dedicated his life to the teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (Allah). And while Mr. Mohamed continues to be a towering figure among his business colleagues, Sergeant Bascom has been issued felony charges and has been interdicted from duty as a police officer.
It is fair to say that no one is perfect and so is Shell Mohamed and the two police officers and like some of us, they have also experienced good times and bad times in life, but they are true believers in the adages what “goes around comes around” which means that one’s actions will eventually have consequences which he/she will have to deal with, even though this will take time before it happens.
Yours truly,
Asquith Rose
