CG United Super50…
By Sean Devers in Trinidad
Kaieteur News – Led by well-constructed century partnership between inform Tevin Imlach and Kemol Savory, Guyana Harpy Eagles defeated CCC by 129 runs at the Queen’s Park Oval yesterday in their final Zone ‘A’ match in the CG United Super50 Cup to advance along with the Red Force, to the ‘Final-Four’ in Antigua.
The 25-year-old Imlach hit a four and two sixes in his 75 from 88 balls while 26-year-old Savory reached the boundary six times in his 101-ball 69 as the pair featured in a 133 second wicket partnership.
However, only Kevin Sinclair of the other batters reached 25, making 27 from 19 balls aided by a couple of boundaries as Guyana slipped from 159-1 in the 33rd over to be bowled out for 266 with in 47.3 overs.
Matthew Forde (2-41), Amari Goodridge (2-55), Romario Greaves (2-65) and Isaiah Ali (2-39) were the wicket takers for CCC who responded with 137 all out in 36.1 overs.
An unbeaten 32 from 48 balls with two from Denesh Ramdin was supported by Kirstan Kallicharran, who hit five fours and a six in 32 and Kyle Roopchand whose 21 came from 44 balls.
They were the only other batters to offer resistance by putting together 52 in 7.2 overs for the first wicket.
But wickets fell at regular intervals as Ramdin ran out of partners.
Pacer Nial Smith, in his first game in the tournament after replacing Clinton Pestano, had 3-21 while off-spinning all-rounder Sinclair captured 3-25.
There were two wickets for Gudakesh Motie, who moved to 11 and Romario Shepherd who took 10 wickets after completing work in Zone ‘A’
Earlier, in sweltering heat, Guyana, who began today’s game, joint second with Windwards, on 12 points, opted bat on a good track.
Anthony Bramble began in a hurry and hit three fours in 18 before he edged Forde to Wicket-Keeper Ramdin at 26-1 in 6.5 overs to bring the consistent Imlach to join Savory.
The pair never scored above a run rate of 5 in their stand but worked the ball in the gaps and ran hard while dispatching the bad balls to the boundary.
It was a smart and well calculated stand as both batters’ confidence increased the longer they batted.
Imlach, the only Guyanese batter to score 200 runs in this tournament, hit the first six of the day when he hit back over the bowler’s head to bring up third fifty at this level and second in this tournament.
Savory soon reached his second half-century in this format and tried to up the Tempo with a lovely lofted drive over cover for four but with the score on 152-2 he fell to Greaves in the 34th over.
Hetmyer, who missed the last match against the Red Force which Guyana lost, due to illness, arrived at crease.
With scores of 12, 11, 9 & 37 this was not the kind of performance Guyana would have wanted from their senior batter.
The left-hander from Berbice looked like this was the day to prove his detractors wrong with a big score as he launched a brutal attack on spinner Navin Badaisee pulling him for four, sweeping him another boundary before ending an expensive over with a six over mid-wicket that landed on roof of double decker stand.
Imlach, who failed to convert three 30s into fifties, eventually made an unbeaten 63 but yesterday, when set to convert his elegant 75 into his first List ‘A’ ton, his concentration wavered and he missed a big shot at Greaves and was bowled off-stump at 191-3.
A handful of CCC’s fans watched as Imlach’s demise triggered a middle order collapse as Guyana slipped from 191-2 to 195-5.
Hetmyer’s poor run continued when he was caught and bowled by Ali without addition to score after facing 16 balls for 21.
Skipper Leon Johnson (1) was next to go when he was run out but the slide was halted briefly with a 26-run stand between Sinclair and Sherfane Rutherford.
But with the score on 120 Rutherford (10) was run out before Shepherd, with two fifties in the tournament, was bowled by Amari Goodridge for 11 at 236-7.
Sinclair continued to execute some good shots, none better than back to back fours through extra cover before he was bowled by Ali at 245-8.
It took an unbeaten 20 from Motie with three fours from 11 balls to see his team past 250 before Permaul (4) and Smith (0) were removed in quick succession as Guyana failed to bat out their 50 overs for the fourth time in this tournament.
