Dear Editor,
Please permit me to address your readership to correct some of the misguided notions peddled by Freddie Kissoon in his desultory column [Kaieteur News 9 November 2022], “Cobeer Persaud and the lawyers that will protest for him.”
First, Mr. Kissoon hallucinates, “The Republican Party poses a clear and present danger to the US and the world.” The Republican Party is a noble party: Abraham Lincoln, a Republican President, freed Black Americans who were slaves. Richard Nixon, a Republican President, broke with years of dogma to initiate an opening with China and paving the way for China to be integrated into the wider world. Ronald Regan, a Republican President, was instrumental in the demise of Soviet communism. George Bush Sr., a Republican President, kicked Saddam Hussein out of Kuwait. George Bush Jr., led the fight to combat AIDS in Africa. And yes, Donald Trump, a Republican President, whose administration was maneuvering behind the scenes to prevent the APNU/AFC from stealing the 2020 elections in Guyana. One may disagree with specific programs of a Republican administration. But Freddie Kissoon, without offering any proof, is misguided to say that the Republican Party is a clear and present danger to the US and the world.
Second, Mr. Kissoon exposes his racism when he rails against “White Europeans, Americans or Canadians” because they live in gated communities, dine and shop at certain establishments. He contrasts the “White” with the “Chinese” and come to the fallacious conclusion that Chinese “should be the most welcomed foreigners in Guyana.” I have nothing against the Chinese; Mr. Kissoon ought to know that crime is rampant in Guyana and living in a gated community is an act of “self-preservation.” As for the dining habits, Mr. Kissoon’s analysis is woefully shallow: the Chinese are an Asian people; their palate is accustomed to curry and other spices of Asia. Logically, they would be more at home in local Guyanese restaurant. White Europeans, American and Canadians have different tastes and will gravitate to a watering hole that caters to their tastes. From his writing it appears that Mr. Kissoon has not been educated in the concept of “consumer sovereignty” and he cloaks his educational deficit in a resort to an abominable racial attack on “White Europeans, Americans and Canadians.” He must be condemned.
I trust that you will publish my letter because Freddie Kissoon peddles misinformation masquerading as a scholar. Freddie Kissoon is a clear and present danger to Guyanese society!
Sincerely,
Roger Ally
