Kaieteur News – Democracy nah strong and solid in Guyana. If it bin a strong and firm, de country would nat have had to wait five months fuh an election result after an attempt to rig de eletions.
A strong democracy is wan where de judiciary is independent, fearless and fair and where is dispenses quickly. We gat too much problems with we justice system fuh claim dat we gat a strong democracy. Is de judiciary wah does protect we democracy. But we now talking about reforms to de Court of Appeal. So who we can say that we gat a stong democracy?
De free press is a hallmark of democracy. And we gat a private media in Guyana. But de state media is still dominated by de government and de Opposition hardly getting dem views heard or printed in de state media. And de government luring away de journalists from de private media. So who we can talk about having a strong democracy?
Human rights is a big problem in dis country. Imagine a lawyer claim how she get detained because she advise she client fuh not say anything. Dat incident is just an isolated one but dem gat many more things does happen in society where citizens’ rights nah respected. So how we can claim we gat wan strong democracy?
Uncle Sam claim his dem had significant human rights issues including unlawful and arbitrary killings and poor prison conditions and de mistreatment of dem inmates. So how we gan claim dat we democracy strong?
If it so strong how come dem wah try fuh rig de elections nah get jail yet?
