Kaieteur News – Watched by a handful of spectators in good conditions, Veerasammy Permaul’s XI, led by a useful all-round performance from Kevin Sinclair, beat Leon Johnson’s XI by six wickets yesterday at Providence, in the GCB’s first Practice match in the preparation for the Regional Super50.

Johnson’s XI won the toss and elected to bat and quickly lost Anthony Bramble (7), who fell to Romario Shepherd at 9-1, before Tagenarine Chanderpaul (13) and Tevin Imlach carried the score a bit further before Ronsford Beaton induced Chanderpaul to provide Matthew Nandu with his second catch.
Shimron Hetymer (7) was the next to go, caught off West Indies white ball off-spinner Kevin Sinclair at 46-3 before the 50 was brought up.
Skipper Leon Johnson, the only batter to reach 200 runs in the recently concluded Inter-County tournament, soon departed for 15 at 61-4 when he was removed by pacer Nail Smith.
Imlach, who played solidly and seemed set for a big score, fell at 71-5 as Smith, who bowled with some pace, struck again.
No other batter got into double figures as Johnson’s XI slumped from 61-3 to lose their last seven wickets for 39 runs.
When Permaul’s XI began their reply, off-spinner Junior Sinclair, who strangely did not bowl a ball in the Inter-County matches for the Champions Berbice, got rid of Nandu (7) and Kevin Boodie (14) to take the score to 33-2.
Kemol Savory (9) departed at 37-3 when he was bowled by Clinton Pestano.
Akshaya Persuad again looked composed; stroking two fours and two sixes and along with Kevin Sinclair carried the score to 90 with a 43-run stand before Persaud departed.
But Shepherd (8) and Sinclair, who showed his batting ability with an unbeaten 28 that included three fours and six, saw their team home as Junior Sinclair finished with 2-23.
